letters to the editor
The choice is simple on June 12
To the Editor;
Having difficulty deciding who to
vote for on June 12th election?
It's really not too difficult. You just
have to decide what you want. Do you
want an increasing portion of your
income to go for higher taxes, hydro
costs, user fees and interest on our pro-
vincial debt? If yes, then vote Liberal. If
you want even more of our jobs to
move to a lower cost area, vote Liberal
or NDP. If you want your children,
grandchildren or even great grandchil-
dren to pay for your current life style,
vote Liberal or NDP. If you want to vote
for someone with charisma, a pleasant
personality but lacks business sense
vote Liberal or NDP.
However, if you want someone repre-
senting you in Queens Park who will
make difficult decisions, someone that
will get our spending under control,
balance the budget, start paying down
our provincial debt, currently in excess
of 280 billion dollars, vote Conserva-
tive. Do you want someone who will
reduce taxes and energy costs so our
businesses can reduce production costs
and compete in the world economy
that is now our reality? Vote Conserva-
tive. If you want someone who will get
us back on the track, living within our
means and enjoying a good life here in
Ontario, vote Conservative. If you
believe business sense is more impor-
tant than charisma vote Conservative.
If you want a more efficient civil ser-
vice, supplying all the government ser-
vices you need, with fewer people col-
lecting high wages and gold plated
pensions for you to pay, vote
Conservative.

Vote with a clear conscience
To the Editor;
A voter recently told me she would need
to "plug her nose" on Election Day, and vote
for one of the mainstream parties. Appar-
ently the level of cynicism among Ontario
voters is at an all-time high, as Ontarians
feel trapped into a decision between the
three main political parties, none of which
will truly represent their values and points of
view.
On one hand, the unelected premier
Kathleen Wynne leads a Liberal party mired
in a $1 billion gas plant scandal, and a shaky
relationship with the teacher's unions.
Similarly, the Progressive Conservatives
can't seem to connect with voters because of
Tim Hudak's forceful, angry demeanor, and
his promised 100,000 public sector job cuts,
which are reminiscent of the Mike Harris
administration.
Finally, the NDP, under Andrea Horwath,
has presented a platform that is very similar
to that of the Liberals. In fact, most political
analysts have stated that the NDP could very
well have supported the Liberal budget
because of its increased taxation and spend-
ing, and its refusal to tackle the enormous
deficit. Instead, Ms. Horwath didn't even
show up to work on budget day, triggering
the election we find ourselves in today.
In this climate, it's understandable that
Ontarians don't feel they'll have a viable
option on June 12th - but there is an alterna-
tive. Perhaps it's time for the people of this
province to vote with a clear conscience,
and to use their votes to send a clear mes-
sage to Queen's Park. If none of these parties
can support family values, smaller govern-
ment, and more power to local politicians,
do they deserve your endorsement? Can
Ontario really afford the status quo?

Lisa Thompson invites voters to Telephone Town Hall
To the Editor;
As I meet with people
throughout Huron -Bruce, I
hear the same concerns:
1. Ontario's debt is out of
control
2. Too many jobs are leaving
the province and our top
export is our youth
3. Ontarians can not afford
skyrocketing electricity
bills
4. There is too much red
tape getting in the way of
small business
And I hear your concern,
and even anger, about the
lack of accountability when
the government is caught in
billion -dollar scandals.
You are also expressing
anxiety over misleading
campaign advertising,
which exploits fear and
causes undue stress. Unfor-
tunately we have political
parties who have special
friends that spend millions
of dollars to confuse and
scare you - especially in the
areas of health care and
education.
Well, I have a different
approach. I ask you to join
me in a Telephone Town

speak directly about what
matters most to Huron -

As for the economy, it is
painfully simple: well-man-

needs a Premier who is a

We must spend within our

A stronger Ontario means
