Annual ONE CARE Local student travels to India
golf tournament
coming Aug. 9
ONE CARE Home and
Community Support Ser-
vices is set to host its annual
fundraising golf tournament,
Aug. 9 at Woodlands, Links,
in Clinton starting at 10 a.m.
The tournament includes
18 or nine holes of golf; the
fee includes a cart, full steak
dinner and excellent prizes
for everyone.
"Businesses and individu-
als have been so generous in
supporting this event. We
have great prizes to give
away and this is a great tour-
nament which supports
such important work," said
Shelley McPhee-Haist, of
ONE CARE.
This tournament is a
major fundraiser for ONE
CARE and all proceeds go
directly back to help senior
citizens, disabled adults and
children with services to
help them live
independently.
ONE CARE assisted more
than 4,700 people in Huron
and Perth Counties last year.
ONE CARE is a charitable,
non -for-profit agency pro-
viding services to families in
the area. Last year, for
instance, ONE CARE deliv-
ered 3 8,00 0 Meals on
Wheels, provided more than
70,000 rides for people who
needed transportation and
served more than 900 sen-
iors at 13 different dining
programs.
As well, services helped
more than 1,200 individuals
with home care and addi-
tional support for more than
290 people at adult day
programs.
"We count on fundraising
and donations to help sup-
port our programs. A day of
golf for ONE CARE is a great
way to support programs
that make life better for
others.
Golfers are asked to regis-
ter by Aug. 1.
The cost is $85 for 18 holes
and $65 for nine.

After a much needed
rain we are now getting
some warm sunny
weather. Crops are grow-
ing and the weeds; as
usual, are doing well.

traveled to India, arriving
there the first of July. The
group celebrated their
arrival with a delicious
breakfast overlooking the
lakes of Udaipur. From
there they traveled to Ara -
veli Leadership Centre,
which the group found to
be a very beautiful place
surrounded by mountains.
Suspects take off
with stolen ATV
NORTH HURON - Officers are currently
investigating the theft which occurred
on July 2 at approximately 4:45 a.m.
from a home on Stone School Road.
The home owner reported being
awakened by the sound of an ATV
driving around his property.
Upon checking on his vehicles, which
were parked near his garage, he
noticed one of them was missing.
He then observed two suspects driving
off on a green coloured 2011 Yamaha.
The suspects are believed to
male, between 14 to 20 years
of age; and were dressed in all
black clothing and helmets.
Jewelery taken
from two homes
on the same day
GODERICH - Huron County Crime Stop-
pers and the Huron County OPP would
like the assistance of the public in
helping to solve two daylight break-
ins which occurred in the west end.
The first break and enter was reported
to police by an Elizabeth Street prop-
erty owner. Police investigation
revealed a thief forced entry into the
resident's home through a kitchen win-
dow sometime between 12:30 p.m. and
1:30 p.m. on May 23. The thief stole
approximately $2,000 worth of jew-
elry consisting of a chain necklace
and two gold rings with diamonds.
Nearby, on Picton Street West, a
home owner noticed someone had
entered their home and stolen jew-
elry. Police believe the thief forced
entry into the residence sometime

A Canadian flag cake had
been made for them for
our national day.
The group is making
progress on the build site
at S. Barind where they are
renovating the old class-
room and building up a
boundary wall. The school
children kept them
entertained.

dence, the thief proceeded to steal
approximately $4,000 worth of jew-
elry and a nominal amount of cash.
Stolen items include a gold twisted
bangle bracelet, three match-
ing earrings and a gold ring with
a golden beryl gemstone.
Motorcyle taken from
unlocked garage
HURON EAST - Police are currently
investigating the theft of a black, 2005
Yamaha Warrior motorcycle which was
stolen from an unlocked garage on
McNabb Line.The suspects entered the
property and stole the bike sometime
between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. on July 4.
Theft of rims and tires
SOUTH HURON — Police believe those
responsible attended Huron Motor
Products on London Road 6 p.m.
on June 21 and 7 a.m. on June 23,
where they proceeded to steal a
complete set of rims and tires off a
brand new pickup, leaving the vehi-
cle behind on four cement blocks.
The 20 -inch aluminum rims
are described as being heavy
duty ultra-brights.
The approximate value of the
rims and tires is $4,000.
Any person with information regard-
ing this incident should immedi-
ately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-
310-1122 or (519) 524-8314.

Kincardine resident and
former teacher facing
sexual assault charges
SOUTH HURON - Members of the
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) Criminal Investiga-
tions Unit have laid charges against
a retired elementary school teacher.
The charges date back to the early
1980s when the accused was teach-
ing at the former J.A.D McCurdy Pub -
They also had a man
who runs the traditional
tie-dye and block printing
workshop, show them his
craft. The group will have
something to show for
their work.

The accused taught elementary

until 1987 and was later employed
as a teacher in the City of London
at Byron Somerset Public School.
Police have charged 61 -year-old male
from Kincardine with three counts of
Indecent Assault contrary to Section
149(1) of the 1980 Criminal Code.
The accused was arrested on July 4 and
is scheduled to appear at the Ontario
Court of Justice — Goderich on Aug. 11.

CENTRAL HURON -A
38 -year-old driver
faces several charges
following a traffic stop
Friday afternoon.
On July 4, shortly before 6:00 p.m.
a West Region Ontario Provin-
cial Police (OPP) traffic unit mem-
ber observed the driver of Dodge
Dakota racing 50 km/h over the
posted 80 -km/h speed limits on
Bluewater Veteran's Highway.
The pickup truck was stopped on
Bluewater Veteran's Highway near
Kitchigami Road and upon speaking
with the driver the officer noted the
driver had been consuming alcohol.
A roadside -screening test was
completed and the driver regis-
tered a fail. He was transported
to the Huron OPP detachment for
breath tests and both tests reg-
istered above the legal limit.
As a result the accused from Sarnia
has been charged with drive motor
vehicle with over 80 milligrams of
alcohol and race a motor vehicle.
He has been released from cus-
tody with a court date scheduled
for July 28 at the Goderich court.
