The Queen's Hotel, one of
Seaforth's historical downtown
landmarks was destroyed by
fire on July 6.
Sirens sounded late Sunday
night as local firefighters
rushed to the scene where the
building was already ablaze.
The fire spread quickly and
firefighters worked hard
throughout the night and into
the early morning hours hosing
down the hotspots.
Tracy Medeiros, an employee
at the Shell Gas Bar said she
first noticed smoke when the
sirens went off, but hadn't seen
the flames until she looked out-
side to see what the commotion
was about.
Traffic was re-routed in
order to bypass the main
intersection, which was
blocked due to hoses and
emergency vehicles.
According to Deputy Fire
Chief Tom Phillips, the owners
were not home at the time of
the blaze, but had been con-
tacted by the fire department,
as well as the OPP.
A handfull of residents were
asked to evacuate their homes
Tracy Medeiros, for the Expositor
as a precautionary measure
and were directed to the legion,
who opened their doors for
those in need of somewhere to
go.
Damage to the building was
extensive and it is possible the
structure may need to be lev-
eled due to safety reasons.
As of press time Monday
morning, no known cause had
been released.
