• Causing a stir across North America, the
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge made its way
to town with several organizations, busi-
nesses and individuals taking part right
here in Seaforth. The Seaforth Coopera-
tive Children's Centre, Maplewood
Manor and Meridian Seaforth branch all
took the plunge, while collecting money
for the cause.
• Kicking off this year's Fall Fair, four local
contestants took the stage during the 44th
annual Ambassador of the Fair competi-
tion on Sept. 11. Amber Brodie, 20, of
Brucefield came out on top as the even-
ing's winner, while runner-up went to
Carly Shelken, 17, of Seaforth.
• As the nomination period came to a close
on Sept. 12, four candidates had already
secured seat on Huron East council.
Mayor Bernie MacLellan and Deputy
Mayor Joe Steffler will both take up office
once again, running unopposed. Also in
Brussels, incumbent Coun. David Blaney
will maintain his seat, joined by new-
comer John Lowe.
• How and why a man was shot to death
near Hullet Marsh remained a mystery
late Sunday after unconfirmed reports
stated two people riding horses - a man
and a woman -were shot and the man
died. People in the Clinton area were told
to lock their doors and stay inside,
prompting several to vent on social media
about a lack of information provided by
the local OPP. Victim was thought and
later confirmed to be Don Frigo, the vice
president of Hady Construction Group,
based in Etobicoke.
• A 70 -year-old man wanted in connection
with a fatal shooting north of Clinton on
Sept. 13 has been arrested and charged
with first-degree murder. Boris Panovski
was taken into custody Sept. 21 without
incident as he attempted to re-enter the
country at Pearson International Airport.

• A London judge reserved her decision in
the request by Huron County residents to
have current wind farm construction
halted until they have their day in court.
• Dozens of interested citizens turned out to
Huron East's Sept. 18 council meeting
with one question on their minds; will
Seaforth be getting a Splash Pad? In the
end council chose not to support the
motion committing funds to the project,
but encourage the committee to return
once a more secure plan was in place.
• If the packed parking lot, not to mention
the amount of fans lined up out the door
of the arena wasn't enough, those who
turned out for the Centenaires home
opener were certainly loud enough to let
everyone know not only was the team
back, but they had been missed.
• More than 60 runners and walkers from all
over Huron County persevered through
some chilly morning temperatures to raise
money for the Alzheimer Society Huron
County on Oct. 4.
• Those making their usual stop at the
Dublin post office are noticing a big
change this week as postmaster Donna
Paratchek celebrated her last day on the
job Oct. 3.

• The Seaforth food bank took the day to
thank their many supporters and volun-
teers, as well as members of the Trillium
Foundation, during their open house on
Oct. 8. Rena Spevack, volunteer with the
Trillium Foundation, presented food bank
coordinator Herb McGowan with a plaque
commemorating a grant the foundation
had provided, which enabled the food
bank to install a walk-in freezer.
• The congregation of Northside United
Church celebrated their 150th anniversary
with an evening of celebrating, including a
variety show, supper and special service
on Oct. 19.
• Huron County OPP is currently investigat-
ing a number of acts of vandalism to wind
turbine sites. The latest reported incident
happened between Oct. 16 and 17 at a
construction site on Manley Line in Huron
East. Police said investigation revealed
that equipment had been tampered with.

• Bethel Bible Church celebrated 50 years of
ministry Nov. 15 and 16 with an open
house, banquet and special anniversary
service featuring a former pastor and
music from all generations of singers.
• The Great Lakes Storm of 1913 Remem-
brance Committee was celebrated nation-
ally during a ceremony in Ottawa on Nov
10. The committee was awarded the 2014
Governor General's Award for Excellence
in Community Programming, which was
the third honour bestowed upon the team.
• Treats weren't the only things on the
minds of Seaforth Public School students
this Halloween as they turned their atten-
tion to the needs of others in the commu-
nity. Thanks to a fall initiative put forth by
teacher Kristy Illamn's Grade 7 and 8
Community Outreach Team, the school
made donations to not only the local food
bank, but to families overseas as well.
• Residents of Huron East have spoken,
electing their new municipal council on
Oct. 27. Both Seaforth councilors Nathan
Marshall and Bob Fisher were re-elected,
along with incumbents Alvin McLellan
and Dianne Diehl from the Grey ward and
Larry McGrath from Tuckersmith. New
councilors include Kevin Wilbee and
Brenda Dalton for McKillop, as well as
Raymond Chartrand in Tuckersmith.
• Canadians now have the chance to own
the famous Iceculture ice truck that
launched a battery created by Canadian
Tire into the international spotlight. A ver-
sion of the vehicle is now available in two
forms, as a small-scale model and Mega-
Bloks set.
• A 55 -year-old Gorrie man is facing a crimi-
nal charge in relation to a fatal motor vehi-
cle collision that killed 27 -year-old Jordan
Moorehead east of Bluevale on Sept. 22.

• The best and brightest of Huron County's
manufacturing sector were on display
Nov. 13, during the ninth annual Huron
Manufacturing Awards, which took place
in Hensall. Winners included Brett and
Brian Landsborough of Maelstrom Win-
ery, Huron East as well as the Village of
Vanastra Revival Project,
December, 2014
• Some big changes are coming to the Sea -
forth Community Hospital on Dec. 1. In a
strategic redirection by the Huron -Perth
Health Alliance, Seaforth, St. Mary's, Clin-
ton and Statford sites are all takingon spe-
cialty roles in hopes of advancing the way
patients receive care. For staff at the Sea -
forth, rehabilitation will be the site's num-
ber one priority.
■ Huron East council has been told the news
they will be receiving the largest cut from
the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund
once again. In the coming year, the munic-
ipality will face a $454,000 reduction com-
pared to a $331,100 cut in 2014.
• A $5,000 donation was gratefully

• Seaforth's annual Santa Claus Parade
made its way up Main Street, keeping
spectators entertained despite the frigidly
low temperatures. The parade, which
lasted almost an hour, featured floats rep-
resenting families and businesses from
Seaforth and Huron East, as well as most
of Huron County.
• Mrs. Badley and Mrs. Stackhouse's kinder-
garten class, from Seaforth Public School,
was recently involved in a special project.
The class collected donations for Opera-
tion Christmas Child, which sends shoe -
boxes full of toys and supplies to needy
children in Central America.
• Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul Gowing was
elected Huron County Warden on Dec. 10.
• Players, fans and alumni filled the rink
as the Huron East Centenaires hosted
a reunion afternoon at the arena on
Dec. 14. After some free public skating,
folks got a chance to enjoy the 1986
Junior D All Ontario game in the Blue -
line Club, followed by the Cents last
home game of 2014 against the Milver-
ton 4 Wheel Drives.
