Annual Thomas the Tank Engine Day at Clinton's school on wheels
For the Expositor
Who doesn't love trains?
They've fascinated the young
and not -so -young from the time
the very first locomotive chugged
along a track in the 1800s.
One of the most famous steam
engines is blue, has his own series
of books, stars in television pro-
grams—and is called "Thomas."
The School on Wheels
Museum will host its annual
"Thomas Day" on Saturday,
Sept. 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00
p.m. in Sloman Park on Victoria
Terrace in Clinton.
The afternoon will feature a
large, hands-on Thomas toys
display for children to enjoy, a
scavenger hunt with prizes, a
bubble centre, face painting,
and of course, tours of Huron
County's most celebrated train/
school car.
After the travelling school car
education program was aban-
doned in 1967, the CN School
Car was thought to be lost until
it turned up, in rather poor con-
dition, in a CN rail yard in
Toronto. Through negotiations
and subsequent purchase by the
town, the car eventually found
its way to its current location in
Clinton.
In addition, a model of
Thomas the Tank Engine will be
on site, courtesy of Fincher's
Book Store, for that one -of -a -
kind photo opp of kids climbing
aboard Thomas.
The School on Wheels
Museum also will be sponsoring
a very special free draw as a
highlight of Thomas the Tank
Engine Day.
Admission is free.
