48 -Hour Amazing Race Central Huron returning in September
Teams are racing to get
their registrations in for the
second annual 48 -Hour
Amazing Race Central
Huron, a test of brains,
brawn and stomach in this
race that mimics the highly
successful CBS Amazing
Race television program.
A total of 96 competitors
will need to raise $100 each
for United Way Perth Huron
before even joining the start-
ing line in this race organ-
ized by the Municipality of
Central Huron and the Cen-
tral Huron and Area Busi-
ness Improvement Area for
Fri., Sept. 26 and Sat., Sept.
27.
Over two days, they will go
head to head in eight wacky
and exhilarating events
staged at locations around
the picturesque Central
Huron landscape. There will
be a group dinner on Friday
night and a celebration for
all participants, volunteers,
families and friends at the
Club Huron Fish and Game
in Clinton on Saturday night.
"Organizers are sworn to
secrecy about the nature of
the challenges, and I'll only
say that they promise to be
even more fun for competi-
tors than last year," said
Genny Smith, race director.
"This event really does have
it all: It highlights all that
Central Huron's businesses
and community has to offer,
it's a blast for teams of best
friends and family, and it
raises money for a cause that
does so much good across
this community:'
For the second year, the
United Way Perth Huron will
receive funds to help
improve lives and build
strong local communities.
Registration is limited to
just 24 teams of four, with
participants required to be
16 years or older.
Registration deadline is
Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

Special to the Expositor
September is coming up
fast! For some that means
back to school time.
But for the Blyth Festival
Singers it's a callback to
rehearsals for an exciting
upcoming season.
With the choir you get
that same back to school
feeling: seeing friends
again, preparing to learn
new things, getting new
music like we used to get
new books.
In fact, choir is way better
than the first day of school.
It's like having the best
class of the day all the time
- music!
And there are other
perks. You don't have to
ride the school bus but
instead get to drive with
your car pool buddies.
There are no tests, no pass
or fail - we all sing for own
pleasure and learning at
choir. We always get gold
stars of achievement - from
our very appreciative
audiences.
And no one has to eat
soggy sandwiches either as
we have awesome social
nights once a month with
the most delicious home-
made goodies.
Whatever your reason -
we welcome and invite you
to join the Singers for the
exciting 2014-2105 season.
It includes a go at the
Messiah and other Christ-
mas music for December,
a musical tribute to the
war years in the spring,
and a showcase of up-
and-coming young musi-
cal talent at our May
cabaret.
Singing is good for the
body and the soul, so treat
yourself and join us, and
be sure to invite your
friends as well.
We welcome singers of
all abilities and ages. Reg-
istration fees for high
school students are half
price and newcomers can
give the choir a three-
week trial.
Choir registration and
our first practice is on
Wed., Sept. 3 in the June
Hill Room, on the upper
floor of the Blyth Festival
administration offices.
Registration starts at 7
p.m. with rehearsal from
7:30 to 9:30 pm.
If you have a Messiah
score, dig it out, dust it off
and bring it along.
