HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2014-08-20, Page 22 Huron Expositor • Wednesday, August 20, 2014 Huron County's warden hosts charity golf tournament Tara Ostner QMI Agency The 4th Annual Huron County Warden's Charity Golf Tourna- ment was held at the Seaforth Golf Club Aug. 15. Around 60 golfers enjoyed the game on the windy but, nevertheless, warm and sunny afternoon. The tournament was hosted by Huron County warden, Joe Stef- fler. The goal of the event was to raise funds for a worthy cause as well as to provide local residents with an opportunity to network and socialize. This year, the tournament was held in support of the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre (HCFBDC), an organiza- tion that acquires, stores and distributes food to the food banks and aid agencies located within Huron County. The HCF- BDC also works alongside the Huron County Health Unit. Last year, the tournament was held in support of Habitat for Humanity Huron County, a non- profit, non-government, incor- porated charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of economically disadvantaged persons. Steffler and his teammates, namely his wife, and treasurer of the Seaforth Food Bank, Lin, his son, John, and the secretary of the Seaforth Food Bank, Linda Kistner, teed off at 1 p.m. and, despite it being his first game of the season, Steffler had a great first swing. Steffler was elected as Huron County's warden by Huron County Council last December. As warden, he is the executive officer of the corporation and head of County Council. His main roles are to preside over council meetings, provide lead- ership to the council, represent the municipality at official func- tions and carry out the duties of the head of council under the Municipal Act.
