The race began Aug. 1 for the
2014 Seaforth Country Classic
title, not to mention the $10,000
first prize.
On the first day of play, Andrew
Parr, formerly of London, Ont. and
now of San Francisco, posted a
seven under for a score of 63 in the
first round of the tournament.
Right behind him was last year's
champion, David Markle of Shel-
burne, who posted a 64. But it was
Spence Laurie, of Blenheim, who
surprised everyone by also firing a
63 to really heat up the race. Lucas
Kim, of Toronto, and Terry O'Brien,
of Innisfil, came in at 65 and there
were several players at 66 and 67.
Local fan favourites Kyle Skinner
and Tony Greidanus, along with
brother and sister team, Paul and
Robyn Doig, finished several shots
behind the leaders.
The second round saw Kim
come on strong with a 64, taking
the lead, while Parr finished at 68.
Meanwhile Laurie couldn't pull
the same game together, finishing
five over for a score of 75, leaving
him well back of the pack, while
defending champion, Markle,
stayed in the race, shooting 69.

Seaforth Country Classic for 2014.
In the end Parr would fight off
Markle and Kim to take the 2014
Seaforth Country Classic title, fin-
ishing 11 under.
Markle congratulated his friend
and presented him with the Coun-
try Classic trophy and jacket.
"This is the first pro tournament
I've won since my very first pro
tournament in 2006 and I just
didn't know how sweet it would
feel," said Parr, after his winning
putt. "It's pretty great and pretty
satisfying."
Parr went on to thank his family
for all their support, as well as the
course staff and tournament
volunteers.
"This is such a great event for so
many reasons and I really think it
starts here with the Doig family, he
said. "This is a home event for me,
it's what feels the most like home
and it's really special to be the
champion this year. I've played in
this tournament so many years and
had some really close calls, but to
finally win is an honour."
For course manager Carolanne
Doig this year's Country Classic
kept up its tradition of great
golf, not to mention the

"Although we had a
shorter field than normal,
we had good quality golfers
and a really exciting finish.

to have a three-way play off at one
point," she laughed, adding
although each of the young men
would've been a great winner,
Andrew Pan did an excellent job at
landing top spot.
"He's very close to being local,
coming from London," she said,
going on to explain Parr went to
great lengths to make the tour-
nament from his new home in
San Francisco, which even
involved hopping a red eye
flight to make Thursday's Pro
Am. "He drove straight here,
played 18 holes and came back
the next day and shot a 63, so
that's pretty darn good."
This year's event also raised
over $7,000 for the Canadian
Diabetes Association, which
included a special contribution
by Wes and Mary Ann Spence.
The couple offered up $20 per
eagle Friday and Saturday, rais-
ing the stakes Sunday with a
contribution of $50 per eagle.
