Kevin Wilbee running for McKillop Ward Councillor

On July 23, Kevin Wilbee
announced he would be
running for Municipal
Councillor of the McKillop
Ward for Huron East.
"I grew up in McKillop, I
love my community and I
want to participate in the
continuing growth and
development of our commu-
nity," he said.
Wilbee was raised on a
farm just outside Walton
where he, his brother Mark
and his parents Keith and
Gloria, operate a cash crop
family farm, which produces
wheat, soy beans and corn.
For many decades, his family
also had an orchestra known
as the Wilbees followed by
Generation II, which played
dances in many local
communities.
During his youth, Kevin
attended elementary school
and high school in Walton,
Seaforth and Clinton and
currently holds a Juris Doc-
tor degree in law from the
University of Ottawa.
Wilbee's first job was
working at JR's Gas Bar in
Brussels and since then he
has held numerous positions
such as a parliamentary and
outreach assistant on Parlia-
ment Hill, as well as office
manager at the Ontario Min-
istry of Agriculture. He is

Automatic licence
plate recognition nabs
suspensed driver
CENTRAL HURON —A 60 -year-old
mam is facing a charge of driving
with a suspended licence follow-
ing a traffic stop the morning of July
30. Just before noon, a Huron County
OPP officer was patrolling north-
bound on Bluewater Veteran's High-
way when she encountered a vehicle
travelling southbound. The cruiser,
equipped with an Automatic Licence
Plate Recognition (ALPR) computer
device sounded an alert after the
licence plate was captured by the
onboard camera. The ALPR identified
the attached licence plate as being
registered to a suspended driver.
A traffic stop was initiated and it was
confirmed the driver held a suspended
driver's licence. As a result the driver
from Newmarket will have to attend
Provincial Offences Court in Goderich
on Sept. 2 to answer to the charge.
Driver swerves to
avoid deer and
collides with ditch
CENTRAL HURON —A 19 -year-old
driver from Central Huron missed
the deer, however, in his attempt
to avoid the deer he put his vehicle
in the ditch. Huron County Ontario
currently beginning his law
career at the law firm of
Monteith Ritsma Phillips
LLP out of Stratford, serving
the rural community of
Huron -Perth.
"Over the years, while
working on the family farm
as well as pursing a law
degree, I have developed a
unique blend of agricultural
and legal knowledge which I
am excited to put to use
serving the interests of farm-
ers and other members of
our rural community," he
said.
Wilbee, who is bilingual,
enjoys volunteering with
community groups, partici-
pating in political affairs and
OPP officers responded to the motor
vehicle collision on Stone School
Line just after 5 a.m. on July 26.
An officer spoke with the driver
and determined the novice
driver had been consuming alco-
hol and had a Blood Alcohol Con-
centration (B.A.C) above zero.
As a reminder to all novice and young
drivers, there are stiff penalties for
driving a motor vehicle with a B.A.0
above zero. All drivers who are 21
or under must have a B.A.0 level of
zero when operating a motor vehicle.
If you are a novice driver and are
caught with any amount of alco-
hol in your blood, you will receive
an immediate 24-hour roadside
driver licence suspension and if con-
victed, could face a fine up to $500
and receive a 30 day licence sus-
pension under the novice driver
escalating sanctions program.
If you are a fully licensed young
driver who is 21 years and under
and you are caught with alcohol in
your blood, you will receive a 24
hour roadside driver licence suspen-
sion. If convicted you could face a
fine and a 30 day licence suspension.
Dodge Charger stolen
SOUTH HURON — Huron County
OPP officers are currently investi-
gating the theft of a white, 4 -door,
2010 Dodge Charger. On July 22 the

"This Election will be

time Huron East will be

phone system of voting," he
said. "Electors will receive a
voter identification letter
which will contain a per-
sonal information number
(PIN). The voting period will
commence on Oct. 11 and
will run until 8 p.m. on vot-
ing day, Oct. 27."
After filing his nomination
Wilbee said, "I look forward
to meeting and talking with
the residents of McKillop
Ward, as well as the rest of
Huron East, to discuss the
owner parked the vehicle at a resi-
dence on Mount Carmel Line and left
for a mini -vacation. At approximately
7 p.m. the owner returned to retrieve
the car and noticed it was missing.
The vehicle had been left inse-
cure with the ignition key eas-
ily accessible inside the vehicle.
Man caught trying to
steal fuel on a stolen ATV
HOWICK — Police have laid several
criminal charges against a 33 -year-
old man from Strafford following an
early morning incident on July 29.
Just after 4 a.m., a Huron County OPP
officer was in the Howick area con-
ducting proactive patrols in response
to recent thefts of fuel from fuel stor-
age tanks. The officer pulled into the

Howick Roads Department property
located on Harriston Road when he
observed an ATV suspiciously leave
the property. The officer followed the
ATV to a nearby field located on Toll
Gate Line. Additional police vehicles
responded and officers were able
to contain the ATV and driver within
the field. West Region OPP Emer-
gency Response Team (ERT) mem-
bers and an OPP K9 unit attended
the scene to track the fleeing sus-
pect. The track proved to be suc-
cessful as officers located the sus-
pect hiding in the riverbank foliage.
Officers arrested the man after find-
ing him in possession of break-in instru-
ments and Methamphetamine. Offic-
ers also confirmed he was operat-
ing a 2011 Yamaha ATV that was sto-
len from Morris-Tumberry on July 2.

Additional investigation revealed the
suspect was also responsible for four
recent thefts of fuel that took place at
the Wawanosh Nature Centre located
on Nature Centre Road in North Huron.
As a result, the suspect has been charged
with a number of offenses including pos-
session of a schedule I substance and
theft under $5,000. He remains in custody
with a bail hearing scheduled forAug. 1 at
the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
