Special to the Expositor
So you've thought about having a
voice in public education, or you are
just curious about how the system
works.
Here is your chance to learn all
about what it is like to become a school
board trustee.
The current board of trustees for the
Avon Maitland District School Board is
hosting a special evening on Tues., May
6 to share with anyone who might have
an interest in becoming a trustee, what
it's like being a trustee.
As the 2014 municipal elections come
up on October 27 of this year, this is an
excellent opportunity to learn as much
as possible about the process and about
the commitment to our students.
The event begins at 7:30
pm at the Education Centre,
62 Chalk St. N. in Seaforth.
You bring local knowledge
of the education issues in
your communities and the
interests of your constituents
into broader school board
discussions. And school
boards have the capacity to
respond to local priorities,
and to develop local policies,
programs and solutions to
respond to local needs.
The mission statement of
the Avon Maitland District
School Board calls us to
"Engage, Inspire and Irmovate"
and recognized that students,
staff, parents and volunteers
are 'Always Learning"
Browse through the board
website, yourschools.ca and

developed to guide and
shape the students of today.
You will read all about our 1
to 1 iPad project, our Inter-
national student program,
how we "ignite Parents"
along with many great sto-
ries and videos from our
schools across the district.

There are Math Olympiads, literacy
initiatives, sports programs, art exhibi-
tions, science fairs, innovative programs
for special -needs kids, EcoSchools, full-
day kindergarten, adult education,
homework clubs and a strong safety net
of support services - all designed to
