We have had another go with snow and hopefully this was the
last, at least until December. The lawns are sure greening up.
The Palm Sunday service at Cavan United Church was led by
Bruce Whitmore. The children's story was about "palms" -
"good job" using your palms, also to clap, wave, shake hands
and hug. His message was titled "Palms, Parades and Politics"
On Bruce and Marg's trip to Israel they saw the palm trees
along the Hosanna Road. They didn't find it as dangerous a city
as advertized. Three different religions share one building.
On Palm Sunday everyone was happy and welcoming (in
Jesus time) but on Good Friday there was a change in
demeanor and the crowd was saying "Crucify Him."
Greeters and collectors were Ruth Campbell and Karen
Braecker.
Most of our family recently attended services at Egmondville
United Church for the baptism of our great granddaughter, Kin -
lee Elizabeth Joan, daughter of Kayla Dale and Curtis Maize.
The knitting and crocheting ladies met recently at Elsie
Beuerman's. Eight ladies worked on various projects.
Food for Thought
Setting a good example for the children takes all the fun
out of middle age.
Region -wide rain barrel
distribution coming April 26
It's rain barrel time.
Ausable Hayfield Conservation, along with Rainbarrel.
ca, has coordinated their region -wide distribution day for
April 26.
This year, for each $50 barrel purchased, $10 is given to a
non-profit organization, including a two in Huron East.
For those purchased at the Vanastra Recreation Centre,
fimds will go to help cover the cost of building renovations,
including a new ceiling in the pool area, new ceramic floor-
ing in the change rooms and new washrooms, which will
include a barrier free washroom for the Community Hall.
Seaforth Public School is also participating, with the
money raised going to support their school yard naturaliza-
tion and playground renewal projects.
According to Rainbarrel.ca, getting more ram barrels in
the area is one of the ideas in the Main Hayfield Watershed
Plan, which was just released by a community advisory
committee.
Stormwater runoff, which was identified as one of the chal-
lenges in the planning process, can carry a variety of pollut-
ants with it. These pollutants can eventually make their way
into the Hayfield River and into Lake Huron.
Rain barrels are used to catch and store rainwater col-
lected from a building's roof through downspouts. The
water is then diverted from stormwater systems, which
reduces the pollutants and the speed of water entering
local rivers and streams.
Reducing the speed of water takes away its ability to
cause erosion.
Collected rainwater can then be used for gardening, which
can save money on municipal water bills, as well as reduce
stress on wells and stormwater infrastructures.
Prices begin at $50 per barrel. A variety of optional items
including flexible downspout pipes, downspout diverters,
rain barrel stands, dispensing hose and additional lengths of
overflow hose can also be purchased. Those picking up rain
barrels are asked to bring the receipt to the sale event in order
to claim their products.
