The event supported community conser- vation projects maintained by the Exeter Lions Club and Ausable Bayfield Conserva- tion Foundations. Projects included every- thing from accessible nature trails and edu- cation, to commemorative woods and student bursaries. The event also raised more than $870,000 prior to the dinner for improvements in watershed communities, with the dinner proceeds adding to that achievement. The Conservation Dinner Committee also saw the return of Tammy Laye as the fea- tured artist. Laye had previously been cho- sen as the feature artist for the very first Con- servation Dinner back in 1990. Her original painting 'Cedar Waxwing' was purchased by Bob and Pat Down that year and 25 years later Bob was once again the winning bidder for Laye's painting 'Mallards at Morrison: Capturing wildlife in their natural setting has been a favourite subject of Laye's paint- ings. 'Mallards' took a panoramic view look- ing across the Morrison Dam Reservoir where a group of Mallard ducks had gath- ered in some open water on a wintry day.
