Agency Since 1914, the Hensall Town Hall has been a hub of the community, serv- ing as a library, council chambers, fire hall, works department and even a small jail over the years. Upstairs, the old opera house stage and gallery still boasts the hardwood and tin ceilings of long ago, but they have fallen into disuse over the past 50 years. In recent years, a grassroots effort to restore the hall to its former glory has been underway, bringing the century - old structure in line with the modern age with electrical, heating and cooling and accessibility while still keeping its original look and features. The Friends of the Upper Hall are seeking donations to make the neces- sary work happen, both through events and their family wall - a wall of plaques with the names of donors and their families. On Saturday, April 26, there will be an art auction at the Hensall Arena, with works coming from Hensall's own Pat Cook as well as many well known artists from Exeter, Clinton, London, Goderich, Bayfield, Stratford and beyond. Tickets are $35 at the door. The committee is still accepting art donations.
