The town of Southampton, recently
the scene of the ; murder of Earl
Yoemans, wasp shrocke:i again 'on Sun
day morning when Hutchison Jackson
a local fisherman, shot Dr. P. J. Scott
in the head, and a minute later shot
himself through the head causing in
stant death. Dr. Scott, though badly
woii3nded was able to goto his home,
and was later. taken to Owen 'Souna
Hospital where, it is said, he has .s
chance of •recovery.
Dr. Scott and Jackson were . the
best of friends -pals in • fact. 'Jack,
son thud made some bad. investments
among other things, in n muskrat
farm, and had lost the bulk of hit
savings. He had. lately .bought a
house 'and lot from Mrs. Edward
Longe, whose 'son, Harry, is in Walk-
erton Jail awaiting 'trial for ' the
murder . of Earl Yeomans. Jackson
,had been .worrying over his business
affairs, and evidently bad become
'Mentally unbalanced •Sunday, morn-
ing he''called Dr. Scott to tome' and
See him. As Scott came near the
door,. Jackson rushed out shouting
that the Dr.. had • put poison in his
medicine, and whipping out ,a revol-
ver he 'shot Dr. Scott :twice in tile•
head. One' bullet- struck Scott near
the right ear tearing Brough his ton-
sils and coming out` almost opposite
the point whereit entere�I•rThe ether'.
-bullet went through the bark of •'the
neck without doing serious harm.
This tragedy rer.•ills,the reeent one
in that it • was this Dr. Scott who.
gave first aid . to Yeomans when he
was fatally ' hit, it, is thought by
Harry Longe, pricl that it was Jail: -
mon who bought Mrs. Lonae's house
when she : re -married. leaving Harry
to live with Mr. and Mrs. Ed: Longe.
