Integrity commissioner back on the table at council

The not so short list is about to get
shorter, as Central Huron Council
looks to hire an Integrity Commis-
sioner as part of its new Code of
Conduct.
Council adopted the code earlier
this year, following a similar exercise
by Huron County. However, decid-
ing who should fulfill the role has
proved to be a sore spot for council.
As officers of the corporation, the
Mayor and Deputy -Mayor are the
go -to people for complaint resolu-
tion, however, Coun. Brian Barnim
brought up the point that should
complaints be lodged against both,
there would be no one to handle the
issue.
It was Barnim who spoke out
against the need for an integrity
commissioner and code of conduct,
calling it "an absolute waste of
money" at the Nov. 19 meeting of
council.
Councilors Burkhard Metzget and
Dan Colquhoun both noted that
since the code of conduct in place,
the only issue at hand was picking
who to fill the role of integrity
commissioner.
In September, CAO Peggy VanMi-
erlo-West hired solicitor Greg Lavine
on retainer, a move that council later
voted against Oct. 1, in a 4-3
decision.
The CAO came back with a long
list of candidates, made up of certi-
fied municipal lawyers. Council
decided to shorten that list to three,
keeping the hiring as local as possi-
ble - no further afield than London
and Kitchener -Waterloo.

GABLES AND RIVER -STONE ACCENTS
This charming two-bedroom bungalow, with its appealing cross -braced
gables and river -stone accents, will make an ideal home for a young couple
expecting their first baby or a pair of empty -nesters looking to downsize.
Entrance is through a spacious covered veranda into a foyer with a coat
closet to the immediate left. Ahead is the great room, with a built -out gas
fireplace that will provide cozy warmth in the cooler months, both here and in
the open-plan dining room and kitchen.
The dining room, which flows seamlessly into the great room, enjoys access

This home measures 49 feet, six inches, by 48 feet, two inches, for a total of
1,594 square feet of living space.
Plans for design 1-2-610 are available for $676 (set of 5), $766 (set of 8) and
$819 for a super set of 10. Also add $30.00 for Priority charges within B.C. or
$55.00 outside of B.C. Please add 7% P.S.T., 13% H.S.T. Or 5% G.S.T (where
applicable) to both the plan price and Priority charges.
