There is a major discrepancy between collection and disposal rates in Central Huron. Where the service costs taxpayers about $55 per bin, disposal costs are up over $80. In addition, the price structure for waste disposal bins are out of sync with the true cost. Central Huron currently under -charges for the smallest size bin, with residents paying $80 as opposed to a $90 actual cost. Prices go up $80 for each subsequent size. The next larger size bin is $160 while the largest is $240. Central Huron is the only municipality with these rates. Others have reduced cost for buying into larger bins. Restructuring this would perhaps allow residents to opt for mid-sized bins and Birthday Club ®Quinn Collins Christina Gilbert Rachel Bartliff Kobi Potter Jadyn Coombs Alyse Hemingway Samuel Rader Myla Lobb Emily Saber Cole Van Wonderen 1 Dec 18th Dec 18th Dec 19th Dec 19th Dec 20th Dec 21st Dec 23rd Dec 23rd Dec 23rd Dec 24th Submitted The KIDS Club Before and After school program from Clinton Co -Operative Childcare Centre has been making hats for the Huron County Christmas Bureau for the past two years, and took the time to deliver their handiwork last week. The BRA suggested some recommended minimum prices for waste bins at $100, $150 and $200 for small, medium and large respectively. About 70 per cent of Central Huron res- idents use the BRA waste bins, and Veil- leux said for a completely voluntary pro- gram, those numbers are good. However, 90 per cent of households have only the smallest bin, so collection costs are more than the income generated. In addition to this, Central Huron is throwing out more garbage per household. However, Veilleux noted there are many households doubling up with their bins - sharing them with neighbours and skewing the figures for tonnages going to landfill. He added that composting and recy- cling more could reduce those numbers, though most recyclable material is already coming in through the blue bin program. Commodity prices are also having an effect on the recycling industry, with very little profit after processing costs are fac- tored in. gr'cLcIzLcluon Bill and Pat Roy are proud to announce the graduation of their son Michael Roy From the University of Western Ontario, London With the degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences, Specialization in Health Sciences Michael is teaching English as a Secondary Language in Bucheon South Korea Bill and Pat Roy are proud to announce the graduation of their daughter Jenna Roy From the University of Western Ontario, London With the degree of Bachelor of Arts Honors, Major in Visual Arts and Major in Classical Studies, Jenna is teaching English as a Second language in Anyang, South Korea.
