Mix of vintage

natural surrounding
make this car show
Classic car enthusiasts have
been listening to classic tunes
and bringing their vintage auto-
mobiles and trucks to the
Arkona area every year for a dec-
ade. Local people and tourists
continue to enjoy the commu-
nity spirit of the Arkona Lions
Classic Car Show, which cele-
brates its tenth year in 2014.
The Tenth Annual Arkona
Lions Car Show and Community
Day takes place Saturday, Sep-
tember 20, 2014 from 9 a.m. - 3
p.m.
This is a car show with a dif-
ference. It offers vintage auto-
mobiles next to gorgeous nature
areas. Each year the Arkona
Lions and Lioness clubs sponsor
this community attraction and,
in partnership with Ausable
Bayfield Conservation, provide
spectators with a rare chance for
free admission to Rock Glen
Conservation Area, located at
8680 Rock Glen Road, Arkona.
This popular tourist destination
is home to majestic Rock Glen
Falls and the Arkona Lions
Museum and Information Cen-
tre. The museum attracts visitors
from around the world to see its
extensive displays of fossils
(many donated by Ted Baxter)
and artifacts.
The car show often attracts
more than 150 classic cars,
according to event co -organizers
Bruce Redman and Cliff Ryan.
The entry for each vehicle
entered in the Classic Car Show
is only $5 and the show features
dash plaques and goodie bags
for the first 100 vehicles. The
Lions Club provides door prizes
for people entering cars in the
show. These door prizes are gen-
erously donated by businesses
in the surrounding area. For
more information about enter-
ing the car show contact Bruce
at 519-828-3433.
The family -friendly event
offers more than classic cars,
waterfalls, fossil viewing, and
nature trails. There is also a play-
ground and displays. The
Arkona Lioness Club will have
food available for purchase by
the public, and spectators are
able to purchase 50/50 tickets
for a cash draw. Fossil Expert
Bob O'Donnell, of London, is
scheduled to have a display
table that day with a wide variety
of fossils and people can bring
their own fossils to him to be
identified.
"You can bring the whole fam-
ily to enjoy all these attractions
in one place," said Classic Car
Show co-organizer Bruce Red-
man. "This event is as popular as
ever. It's a great way to enjoy the
great outdoors, get away from it
all, and see the care and atten-
tion taken by classic car
owners."
