The com- mittee invites you to a short cer- emony to honour the landown- ers along the trail and other people in the community who have made the trail possible. The ceremony is to take place Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Harvest Celebra- tion Tent at the corner of Bald- win and Main streets in Exeter, Ontario. The ceremony is a way of say- ing thank you, said Kate Monk, Chairperson of the Tenth Anni- versary Committee. "The people of this community should be very proud of what they have accomplished with the South Huron Trail," she said. "The anniversary committee would like to thank the people of the community who have made the MacNaughton-Morrison Trail possible, especially the land- owners along the trail." The Exeter Lions Club is host- ing a light breakfast that morn- ing, from 8 a.m. to noon. The trail committee is also hosting a guided hike at 9 a.m. that morning. The guided hike begins at the Harvest Celebra- tion Tent and runs until 10:45 a.m. The guided hike is the cul- minating activity of the South Huron Trail Get -Active Chal- lenge: Turn Over a New Leaf. Monk thanked the organizers of the Exeter Harvest Celebra- tion weekend for inviting the trail tenth anniversary commit- tee to host their celebrations as part of the weekend. The trail anniversary commit- tee is at work on several projects this year to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the trail. Volun- teers Jim O'Toole and Lorne Rideout, along with local pho- tographers including Bonnie Sit- ter, have created a trail brochure with 1,000 copies printed thanks to a donation from the Exeter Lions Club. Volunteer Dorothy Brown Henderson has written a series of popular columns about the trail. Volunteer photogra- phers have been taking photos over the past year and are organ- izing photos and historical information for use in a planned DVD and photo book. Volun- teers are also working on several other projects including the trail celebration ceremony and land- owner recognition event; the breakfast; and the South Huron Trail Get -Active Challenge: Turn Over a New Leaf. The South Huron Trail is an eight -kilometre, all -season trail that winds through the scenic Ausable River Valley. This acces- sible trail links MacNaughton Park in Exeter, Ontario and Mor- rison Dam Conservation Area (MDCA), at 71108 Morrison Line, just two kilometres (km) east of Exeter. The South Huron Trail combines the Mac - Naughton -Morrison and MDCA trail sections. Thanks to trail loops of different lengths (2 km, 4 km, or 8 km), you can spend 20 minutes or two hours enjoying nature. The trail offers many benefits, said Monk. It is a place to expe- rience nature, remember loved ones, enjoy fellowship and renew friendships, take part in spiritual reflection, be active in recreation, and improve one's health. It has also been used for fundraising events and attracts people to visit and stay in the area.
