2014 Owl Prowl
Popularity of live owls last year
prompts return for 2014 Owl Prowl
The Owl Prowl held east of
Exeter each November
draws hundreds of people to
Morrison Dam Conservation
Area. Last year, for the first
time, the Bluewater Centre
for Raptor Rehabilitation
brought live owls to the edu-
cational nature event. The
live owls were so popular
event organizers say the owls
are coming back for this
year's activity.
"The live owls last year
added something new and
exciting to an event that peo-
ple already loved," said Julie
Stellingwerff, Conservation
Educator and Team Leader
with Ausable Bayfield Con-
servation. "Hundreds of
people attend this event to
call for owls, learn about
owls, and find out how they
thrive in the night."
Last year was also the first
time the Owl Prowl gave the
public the choice of three
starting times. "That worked
really well for those who
took part," said Stellingw-
erff. "It worked so well last
year we're doing it again
this year."
The public can choose
from one of three owl pres-
entation and hike sessions
starting at 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m.,
or 8:30 p.m. Space is lim-
ited. Organizers invite par-
ticipants to come early for
the time they prefer and
invite families with younger
children to consider the ear-
lier time.
Ausable Bayfield Conser-
vation hosts the Owl Prowl at
Morrison Dam Conservation
Area Workshop, 71108 Mor-
rison Line, two kilometres
east of Exeter, just south of
Highway 83. This year's
event takes place on Satur-
day, November 1, 2014 with
three live owl presentation
and hike sessions.

What is the Owl Prowl? It
is billed as a night of fun and
learning about nature. Con-
servation educators present
facts about owls and how
these amazing birds adapt to
the night. People who take
part get to join in a moonlit,
guided night -hike owl 'hoot'
They also enjoy an interac-
tive, multimedia presenta-
tion. Some people have seen
and heard Eastern Screech
Owls during this unique
chance to learn about these
special birds. The event is
free. Staff members do wel-
come any donations to con-
servation education.
Organizers say to please
dress for the weather and to
leave your pets at home.
