Dr. Daniel Ooi was welcomed to his inaugural meeting as the new Clinton Site Chief. Mary Cardinal presented HPHA's Quality Ethics Deci- sion -Making Framework, a tool to be used to ensure that the core components of ethi- cal decision-making are embedded in our everyday operations, ensuring that quality improvement is included in our ethics initia- tives, guiding what we do, why we do it and how it should be done. Committee updates were provided by the Clinton, St. Marys, Seaforth and Strat- ford Local Advisory Com- mittees, as well as the Gov- ernance and Medical Advisory Committees. Reports were received from the Clinton, St. Marys and Seaforth Site Chiefs, Chief of Staff, Chief Nursing Officer and President and Chief Executive Officer Meeting Highlights: • Clinton, St. Marys and Seaforth Foundations are participating in CKNX Radi- othon funraising activities taking place in communities on October 18th. • HPHA's Patient Engage- ment Study is being show- cased by the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement at the OHA HealthAchieve Conference in November. • Board evaluation results were positive and will be used for future planning activities. • President & CEO Evalua- tion is currently being con- ducted online. • Mary Atkinson & John Wolfe were appointed to participate in a meeting with board members of Knoll - crest Lodge and Mitchell Nursing Home/Ritz Lutheran Villa to further dis- cuss the Deloitte Health Care Tripartite Study recom- mendations and begin craft- ing a shared vision. • Local Advisory Commit- tee members are completing a skills matrix and inventory to assist with future planning and recruitment. • Emergency Department refresh project at the Clinton Site is almost done, with work to begin on the inpa- tient unit. • Physicians recently par- ticipated in a Lean Work- shop, learning more about the principles of process optimization, something that has been embraced and rolled out within the organization. • Ebola planning is being done to put processes in place for a potential outbreak. • Collaborative Care Model education sessions are being held with staff, with patient processes from admission to discharge being developed. • Personal Support Worker orientation is taking place the week of October 20th, with unit specific orientation to follow. • "Milestone Gong" was used by a patient recently, recognizing the completion of chemotherapy treatment, reinforcing what a wonderful and impactful support it is to HPHA's patient, family and staff engagement focus. • Funds raised by the 1st Annual Brain and Mind Mat- ters Golf Tournament. new internal medicine specialist A warm welcome is extended to the newest member of HPHA's Medical Staff, Internal Medicine Spe- cialist Dr. Yadwinder Dhillon. Dr. Dhillon completed his medical school training at Tver State Medical Academy in Russia followed by a four year Internal Medicine resi- dency program in Morris- town, New Jersey. Yadwinder (Yad) joined the HPHA's Internal Medicine group in early September. A desire to be closer to his family prompted Yad's return to Southwestern Ontario following his resi- dency training. The exceptional group of physicians and staff along with the excellent facilities are citied as the main rea- sons he made the HPHA his top pick. "We are pleased that Dr. Dhillon chose to join us at the Alliance," says HPHA Chief of Staff Dr. Laurel Moore. "He is a welcome addition to our excellent team of Internists and will support our patients and communities with improved access to care. It has been a pleasure getting to know Yad in these early days and we know he will enjoy exploring all that Huron Perth has to offer!" Creating a healthy workplace culture The public health units in Huron and Perth Counties want to support employers to create healthy work- places. They are sponsoring the Creating a Healthy Workplace Culture work- shop on November 6. "When an employer cre- ates a healthy workplace culture, they invest in their employees' wellbeing. Healthy, productive employers and employees allow a business to thrive," says Annie Lukacsovics, Public Health Promoter at the Huron County Health Unit. "Improving work- place wellness in Huron and Perth Counties improves the health of the counties' residents and the economy." The workshop will help employers learn about free support services, how to turn around a workplace affected by bullying, and how to support healthy choices in the workplace. Lukacsovics says the event is a great opportunity for employers, managers, health and safety leads and workplace wellness com- mittee leads. Co -hosted by the Huron County Health Unit and the Perth District Health Unit, this all -day event features guest speaker Nancy Mulroney, an expert on respectful workplace training and mediation. Creating a Healthy Work- place Culture takes place November 6 at the Mitchell Golf & Country Club, Mitchell. Tickets are $30 each, lunch included.
