him not only to urge him
to stay on, but also to indi-
cate I would not stand for
election unless he agreed to
mentor me on the West
Ward issues. He graciously
agreed to do so. While of
course I am my own person,
with my own approach to
problem solving, I do think it
is vitally important that Bri-
an's eight years of West Ward
experience not be lost. I have
a huge amount of life experi-
ence to bring to the table,
but I feel deficient in the area
of West Ward development
issues. Fortunately, I am a
quick study.
Top 3 issues:
1. Seniors and people on
fixed incomes who can no
longer afford to pay property
taxes - there is something
very wrong when seniors are
being forced out of their
homes due to unaffordable
tax rates. A core problem is
that Inflated MPAC property
values are giving municipal
government's access to easy
money. I am for responsible
government. I am willing to
say no to flakey expenditures
and say yes to investments
that will yield real benefits. If
elected, ratepayers will be
hearing from me frequently.
2. Good governance -
good governance requires
informed consent of the gov-
erned. If more money is
October 8, 2014
needed then the public
needs to be better informed
about the need and the
results of any money
invested. While plenty of
information is available on
the Central Huron website it
is very difficult for the aver-
age person to find anything.
For that reason, if elected I
will maintain my website
(www.patricknagle.ca) and
provide West Ward residents
the information they need to
keep informed. I will be
polling residents to get the
feedback I need to be an
informed representative.
This is the information age.
Participatory democracy is
very do -able on the local
level.
3. Economic development
- throughout the county,
millions of dollars have been
spent on projects that disap-
pear after the funding dries
up. Governments are poor
business people. We need to
learn to work with the busi-
ness community rather than
against it. What is missing in
the mix is the entrepreneur-
ial talent to turn an invest-
ment into a sustainable busi-
ness success. We have to
remove the cronyism and
treat "other peoples money"
with the respect it deserves.
Education and/or work
experience:
I was educated in eco-
nomics at University of
Western Ontario and then
proceeded to serve as a com-
missioned officer in the
Canadian Armed Forces.
Following this experience I
began my business career. I
took leave of my career activ-
ities and spent three years as
a political staffer in the
House of Commons in
Ottawa. I am a political com-
mentator in various publica-
tions, both on-line and in
print.
I also have a strong entre-
preneurial background, hav-
ing launched a number of
successful businesses from
the ground up. At present I
am engaged in three small
businesses, including the
Rural Business Network,
which I operate with my
wife, Linda. RBN develops
software, web services and
print publications from its
location in downtown Clin-
ton. Over the past 20 years I
have also sat on numerous
volunteer community
related boards and commit-
tees in Huron and Perth
counties. During the past 8
years I have served on the
Clinton and Central Huron
BIA Board.
Personal:
I enjoy a challenge, have a
strong sense of duty, and
enjoy working with people
from all walks of life. I am a
husband, father, business-
man, community volunteer,
and published political com-
mentator. I am married to
Linda, my wife of 34 years,
who is also my best friend,
biggest fan and business
partner. We have lived in
Huron County for 27 years.
Together we have raised two
sons, both who were
schooled at Central Huron
Secondary School, before
taking higher education in
Kitchener -Waterloo. My
interests include military
history (I am a War of 1812
buff), and political science.
My core interest is Christian
service through church, and
several other ministries to
encourage people.
