On November 10 St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School held an early tribute for the fallen Canadian soldiers who fought for their
country. The school assembly honoured the troops with their drama club, choir, and concert band performances. Guest speakers
included Warrant Officer, Richard Mercier, Carl and Carolyn Wilson and MPP Lisa Thompson.
Some thoughts on Remembrance Day
Shari Evans
Special to the News Record
November 11 is not just a
day to get out of class, sit in
the gym with friends and
watch a slide show of peo-
ple we never knew who
fought and died in the war.
Instead, we call it Remem-
brance Day for a reason
and that reason is to
remember loved ones who
died and put their lives at
risk in order for us to have
the freedom we have today.
Many who were born
during the wartime didn't
think anything of the life
they were living; they just
simply went about their
daily business. In contrast,
I believe that people today
take the way they live now
for granted. After all, no
one today has to hide from
falling bombs being
dropped from above, no
one today has to constantly
worry about their father or
brother not coming home,
and no one today has to
scavenge for food. How-
ever, it is because of the
actions of soldiers who
were brave enough to fight
through these tough times
that we can do so much
without being questioned,
and that's the way we
should all live.
I think we can all say that
not too many people take
Remembrance Day as seri-
ously as they should. Just
because you don't know
someone who has fought in
a war doesn't mean that

Problem Solved Right Here
you can't show your respect
for the soldiers who fought
for you.
Next year on Remem-
brance Day walk around
and count how many peo-
ple you see wearing a
poppy on their jacket. This
beautiful red flower is a
token of remembrance and
people who wear one
proudly often knew or had
a loved one running
through the fields of our
enemies, fighting to keep us
safe.
