director of Blyth Festival
The Board of Directors of
Blyth Centre for the Arts is
pleased to announce the
appointment of Gil Garratt
as Artistic Director of the
Blyth Festival effective
immediately.
On accepting the position,
Mr. Garratt released this
statement:
"In the past sixteen years, I
have been involved in four-
teen seasons, as an actor, a
director, a playwright, a
dramaturge, an administra-
tor, and the director of the
young company; each of
these representing literally
hundreds and hundreds of
hours of work here.
I believe, without equivo-
cation, that the theatre we
create and produce at the
Blyth Festival represents a
national benchmark stand-
ard of genuine excellence in
execution on every level, and
that we have an unparalleled
relationship with our audi-
ence. There is simply no
place like it.
After thousands of hours,
walking thousands of kilo-
metres across and back and
across our stage, in the sin-
gular Blyth Memorial Hall,
this is what I have learned:
The work we do is the best,
and the reasons we do it are
pure.
Since leaving the associate
artistic director position at
Blyth in 2012, I have literally
worked all over the country:
Theatre North West in Prince
George, BC; Centaur Theatre
in Montreal; St. Lawrence
Centre in Toronto;
Shakespeare in High Park;
Neptune Theatre in Halifax,
the Festival Players of Prince
Edward County; the Royal
Manitoba Theatre Centre in
Winnipeg; and the National
Arts Centre in Ottawa. I
spent a year shadowing Mat-
thew Jocelyn, the artistic
director of Canadian Stage, a
seasoned veteran who has
run major international the-
atres, and was even made a
Chevalier of Arts and Letters
by the French Ministry of
Culture in 2008. I also wrote
three plays, and began a
memoir of my time working
with Paul Thompson. I
served on awards juries, and
granting councils. I have
travelled to festivals across
the country and taken in all
of the theatre that I could.
I have never been more
qualified or more driven to
fulfill the role of artistic
director of this incompara-
ble company. For 40 years
our community has been
engaged in what one patron
of ours has termed `the long
conversation: I am ready to
step forward at Blyth and
lead that conversation."
Blyth Festival is a profes-
sional theatre that enriches
the lives of its audience by
producing and developing
plays that give voice to both
the region and the country.
The theatre produces a rep-
ertory summer season of
exclusively Canadian thea-
tre, with an emphasis on
new work. Blyth Centre for
the Arts, including Blyth Fes-
tival, was founded in 1975.

TO ALL RESIDENTS OF THE
MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST
PLEASE HELP KEEP THIS WINTER A SAFE ONE
The Council of the Municipality of Huron East requests the cooperation of the
ratepayers regarding the parking of cars and other vehicles, and the depositing of snow
on municipal roads during the period in which snow clearing operations are necessary.
It is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act, Section 170(12) to: "Park or stand a
vehicle on a highway in such a manner as to interfere with the movement of traffic or the
clearing of snow from the highway".
Also, Section 181 states: "No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without
permission in writing to do so from the Ministry or the Road Authority responsible for the
Maintenance of the Road."
Parking is not permitted on any street or road within the Municipality of Huron
East between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., from November 1 to April 15.
Violators will be ticketed and may have their vehicles towed and impounded.
Neither the Municipality of Huron East nor the "Snow Plow Operators" will be held
responsible for damage done to vehicles or mailboxes on the Municipal Road
Allowance.
Your help and cooperation in these matters is greatly appreciated and will aid in a
safer winter for all.
