Clinton Spring Fair returns for
160" year June 5 to June 8
News Record staff
The return of spring
means many things, but
maybe most importantly,
the return of the Clinton
Spring Fair.
This year marks the
160th year of the historic
fair, which runs June 5 to
June 8 at Clinton Com-
munity Park and the
Central Huron Commu-
nity Complex.
As with every year,
there are some new addi-
tions to the fair events
that organizers would
like to highlight.
The Ambassador com-
petition takes place on
Thursday, June 5 at 7:30
p.m.
In addition to the tra-
ditional competition, the
option of a meal is now
available.
Costs are $10 for
adults (meal and
admission), $5 for youth
(includes admission)
and youth under 12 are
fee. Admission only is
$5.
There will also be
entertainment by the
Ballagh Bunch, a family
musical group from the
Teeswater area.
There will also be a toi-
let paper dress
competition
While the big boys will
be ripping around in the
derby, the little ones will
also have their chances
to show off their skills.
New this year, the fair
is hosting a competition
for children four to 10
that will feature battery-
operated child vehicles,
also known as "power
wheels':
There is room for 15
entries and the deadline
is June 4. This event is
sponsored by Radar Auto
Parts.
It is $10 per child and
participants should meet
at 6:30 p.m. at the Wil-
liam Street entrance.
To register, contact
Janet Cameron at 519-
482-7925 by June 4.
Also new this year, on
Saturday, June 7 is a pep-
per card tournament at 1
p.m. in the auditorium
and an antique tractor
show race at the
racetrack.
Cameron said the fair
is the first of the season
in the district, and is
often a meeting place for
old friends, young people
coming back from school
and former residents
returning to the area for a
visit.
"It seems to be the
kickoff of summer. Many
people in the area look
forward to it," she said.
