On June 14, the Clinton Wheel 'n' Deal-
ers Club will celebrate its 50th
anniversary.
For the past half -century, the group has
provided an opportunity for residents to
learn square dancing, get some exercise
and meet new friends.
Lois Wise -King of Clinton has been with
the group since its inception.
Wise -King said the social aspect of the
club is one the main factors of why she has
been involved for so long.
"Everybody cares about everybody
else," she said, noting she has made "hun-
dreds of friends" in her 50 years with the
club.
"They have been great times," she said,
"plus you get some good exercise."
It also given her a chance to travel and
take part in square dancing conventions
in places such as London, Ottawa,
Edmonton and even Nova Scotia just to
name a few.
Wise -King said many people might
have misconceptions about square
dancing.
"People think of it being out in a barn,"
Wise -King said. "Modem square driving is
much smoother than the old style.
She said there are many levels of square
dancing that can be learned, and it does
take commitment.
"It takes about a year to learn all the
basics," she said, but added that you don't
have to be an expert to enjoy the activity -
as the best part is getting out and enjoying
the company of others.
"We have a saying that 'square dancing
is friendly dancing set to music," she said.
As for the 50th anniversary event on
June 14, Wise -King said she is looking for-
ward to catching up with some former
members she hasn't seen in awhile.
There are currently 60 members who
come from Clinton, surrounding areas

Live racing made its return to the Huron
County oval this past holiday weekend.
The 10 race card was attended by
many, and enjoyed by fans of all ages.
We've made some changes to our
grandstand facility at Clinton Raceway
and we think you're going to like them.
The entire building has a fresh coat of
paint, it's been pressure washed and
new steel replaces the old. Removing a
portion of the mutuel line and opening
up the kitchen/bar areas, provides
more room for you. We've added extra
TV's and replaced the stairs to the
upper portion. The judges tower has
also seen some significant changes.
In the weeks to come, our parking lot
will be entirely paved, and we'll be
adding some bucket seating in the
grandstand. We think these changes
will improve the overall facility, and
make Clinton Raceway an even better
place to take in live harness racing. We
would like to thank for your continued
support, and we look forward to
another great season in Clinton. Live
racing continues next Sunday with a
Standardbred Canada appreciation day
pork bbq, and the chance to win great
prizes. Sunday June 1 we invite all
those aged 50 or better to join us for a
great afternoon of live harness racing!
