Home My WebLink AboutClinton News Record, 2014-05-14, Page 11Bentley Ehgoetz of Lavis Contracting named OMPHA president for 2014 The Ontario Hot Mix Producers Asso- ciation's (OHMPA's) ceremonial presi- dential gavel was recently passed to Bentley Ehgoetz, director of operations for Lavis Contracting Limited, by outgo- ing president Colin Burpee, general manager of construction for Aecon Con- struction & Materials Ltd. The transition took place during OHMPA's 40th annual general meeting on earlier this spring. "I am very honoured to be stepping in as president of OHMPA as the associa- tion celebrates 40 years of being the leader and voice Ontario's asphalt industry," Ehgoetz said in a press release. "Over the past few years, OHMPA has stepped up its promotion of our indus- try and has hired staff that can spear- head this progress. This year, our aim is to grow our advocacy efforts that will go hand-in-hand with what we are doing to educate our members on how to con- tinue producing a superior product" Ehgoetz graduated from the Civil Engineering Technology program at Fanshawe College. His career in the road construction industry began in 1986 when he was hired as a construc- tion foreman with the County of Perth. However, according to Ehgoetz, his con- struction career really began at childhood. "I was involved with my father's busi- ness, Anson Ehgoetz Excavating Lim- ited, at the age of 16, when I was driving a dump truck even before I had my car license. I guess I can say that the busi- ness has always been in my blood." In the 1990s, Ehgoetz began attending OHMPA seminars and events but it wasn't until several years later that he became active within the association. In 2009, shortly after he became director of operations for Lavis, OHMPA was look- ing for a board member to represent a family-owned business and his name was put forward by 1996 OHMPA presi- dent Gord Lavis. "Getting involved with OHMPA and joining the board was the best thing I could have done," said Ehgoetz. "The learning experience has been invaluable." Students showed their love for Catholic education This past week was Catholic Educa- tion Week at St. Anne's and every other catholic school in Ontario. To celebrate, the staff and students took part in dif- ferent activities each day. On Monday everyone was greeted with smiles and stickers expressing their love of Catho- lic Education. Tuesday was you tube Tuesday as we watched videos regard- ing the canonization of John Paul II and John XXIII. Wednesday the school took part in a simultaneous Mass with all of the Catholic secondary schools in the province. Featured in the mass was a letter from Pope Francis to the Catholic schools in Ontario and "selfies" with Father Chris. Thursday was Throwback Thursday, and staff and students were asked to share their old photos of their first communion or any previous sacra- ments or religious moments in their life. Finally, Friday was #FrancisFactor, everyone was encouraged to tweet out their acts of kindness. St. Anne's also had multiple students travel to skills Canada on Tuesday. As a result we had two students win bronze in Team Construction and another stu- dent won bronze in Aesthetics. Con- gratulations on your awesome work and accomplishment! Congratulations also to our Co-op Department on your amazing annual Co-op Breakfast. St. Anne's also hosted their first Track meet of the year and the Junior Girls and Boys Soccer played their first game. Good luck to you all in your upcoming seasons!
