Jowett's Grove residents
sinking in water stalemate
Gerard Creces
Clinton News -Record
It's a tale of two municipalities.
Residents of Jowett's Grove looking
for municipal water services are
caught between Central Huron and
Bluewater as they hash out a right of
way agreement that could include
water and sewer services for the
area.
In order to expand their water
services in the Bayfield area, Bluewa-
ter requires a right of way under
Central Huron's roads. While they
made the offer of water service for up
to 19 properties in the Jowett's Grove
area of Central Huron, CH council
decided they wanted both water and
sewer or nothing at all.
Meanwhile, Jowett's Grove subdi-
vision residents Frank and Nancy
Moore say the water situation is bad
and getting worse.
Speaking at council March 17,
Frank noted that water quality tests
failed twice in the fall, and that the
well itself requires a new tank and
compression system.
Residents are in a tough spot, as
the potential for water servicing
would make the well repairs obso-
lete. They do not want to spend the
money if the service would be
replaced in the short term by a
developer.
"We realize there are issues with
sewage capacity, but we ask you to
resolve them as soon as possible,"
Frank said.
Both municipalities have said the
same thing - they are trying to move

forward on the issue. Currently there are seven people
using one well - though the majority of those users are
seasonal.
Central Huron had paid into sewage expansion for
Bluewater in the past, but by the time the service could
extend north of Bayfield, the capacity had already been
reached. Now, it's a stalemate as Central Huron waits for
sewer service and Bluewater expands theirs.
However, for the Moores and other residents of the
area, the longer the wait, the worse the water quality
becomes.
"We're in an unsafe water situation," Frank explained.
"We just want to resolve it and not have politics get
in the way."
