With the official arrival of spring and warming temperatures, the risk of flooding increases. I would like to let you know how my min- istry responds to flooding and how ministry staff can help during flood season. The Ministry of Natural Resources is responsible for flood forecasting and warning at the provincial level in Ontario. We work closely with the province's 36 conservation authori- ties and Environment Canada to forecast when and where flooding is likely to occur. The ministry and conservation authorities monitor water- shed and weather conditions to predict water levels and flows, and issue flood messages. Flood messages help municipalities notify the public of developing unsafe river and lake conditions and advise them to take precautions. In areas where conservation authorities do not exist, MNR district offices provide flood information to local municipali- ties and the media. Local governments are then responsible for communicating messages to the public and for first-line emergency response. The ministry's Surface Water Monitoring Centre monitors flood conditions 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is able to contact MNR district offices and conservation authorities immediately with updates. When the risk of flooding is high, the Surface Water Monitoring Centre issues flood messages to the appropriate conservation authorities and MNR District offices by email, fax and, if after hours, by phone. This information is also shared with partners and key stakeholders, such as Ontario Power Generation, CN -CP Rail, the Ministry of Transportation, the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management, and isolated First Nation communities. The ministry's emergency management network is also activated when required. The ministry has regular daily con- tact with the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Man- agement about current conditions and flood potential. To see the ministry's current flood messages, go to www. ontario.ca/flooding. The ministry is making every effort to keep the people of Ontario informed, to provide reliable and immediate updates and to limit the effects of flooding as much as possible. Healthcare Inspiration Event to Honour Caregivers Dear Editor: The Huron Perth Area Providers Table, Healthcare Human Resources Subcommittee has organized its Annual Health- care Inspiration Event to recognize our outstanding health- care professionals and caregivers. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Nominations are being accepted now for those that have shown accomplishments, dedication and commitment to their profession and their work in healthcare. Nominations can be made in 3 categories that include Individual Nomina- tions, Team Nominations, and Organization Nominations. Specific Nominations include: Rookie of the Year, Team Congratulations Municipality of Bluewater A certain group of our local councilors have managed to remove the ice from the Bayfield Arena. "SHAME ON YOU!" I would suggest you disrespected our BCH hockey kids and especially the kids and taxpayers of Bluewater. I wonder how much you subsidize the other arenas, libraries, parks, road department sheds, fire departments, etcetera, and that doesn't bother you fabulous five councilors that spend money at the spin of a hat and don't want to support Bay- field arena. "SHAME ON YOU" again. God bless the group from Bayfield Arena Community Partners. You deserved a better card than what you were dealt. Just a friendly reminder that a municipal election is coming up in the fall of 2014 and I think, along with other residents, it would be in the best interest of the future of the Municipality of Bluewater to ferret out the fabulous five. P.S. Funding required from the Municipality of Bluewater to have a Bayfield arena is so minimal it's like a drop of water in a bucket without making a ripple. John Murray Taylor Work, Life Time Achievement, Growth and Fulfillment, Inspiration, and many others!
