in collisions Feb. 27
The return of high winds and snowfall kept
officers from the Huron County Ontario Pro-
vincial Police (OPP) detachment very busy
Feb. 27 responding to numerous collisions
throughout the county. Officers responded
to a total of 17 collisions that day alone with
the majority of them occurring place
between 7 and 9:30 a.m.
Only two of the involved occupants sus-
tained injuries, though in both cases they
were minor. Nearly one-third of the colli-
sions were rear end impacts, including a
police cruiser that was rear ended on Grand
Bend Line. The driver of a Chevrolet Equinox
was traveling too fast for the weather and
road conditions and collided with the police
vehicle ahead.
Huron County OPP reminds all drivers to
drive according to road and weather
conditions.
"Driving too fast for the road and weather
conditions is the number one cause of our
winter collisions," said OPP Acting Staff Ser-
geant Randy Wright. "Drivers need to main-
tain full control of their vehicle at all times.
Slow down and leave ample space. If you fail
to adjust your driving habits during adverse
conditions a crash is imminent."
Motorists must be prepared before they
start their travels.
• Take a look at the weather forecast and
pay attention to weather watches and
warnings. Postponing and delaying your
travel until the conditions improve is a
wise choice.
• Monitoring road conditions is essential.

• Carry a cell phone to contact emergency

Unused $mart money bills from pre-
vious years are still acceptable, how-
ever, not all businesses are aware of
that, and the board discussed making
sure all staff are aware of the program
and how it works so no customer is
turned away.
By and large, customers are taking
advantage of the program, with only
about five per cent of the bills going
unused.
The program is looking at an Easter
launch. The BIA is also looking at bring-
ing back costumed characters for the
annual Easter egg hunt put on by the
Cooperative Day Care Centre.
On April 12, the annual Souper Sar-

and to date it has raised more than
$15,000 for the food bank.
