Libro Credit Union receives national
recognition by winning AIME award
Libro Credit Union
was honoured with an
Achievement in Market-
ing Excellence (AIME)
Award this past week
during the 24th annual
Marketing Association
for Credit Unions
(MACU) Achievement in
Marketing Excellence
Awards Gala in
Montreal.
The AIME Awards rec-
ognize outstanding mar-
keting achievements
within the credit union
industry over the past
year. This year 161 entries
were received in 14
categories.
Libro won an award in
the $3,000 Shoestring
Award category for its
entry, 2013 Farms to
Food Banks Program.
Started by the former
United Communities
Credit Union, the pro-
gram connects locally
grown food from farmers
to local food banks
across southwestern
Ontario. In 2013, United
Communities purchased
a total of $25,000 worth
of meat, potatoes, apples,
milk, eggs, and honey
from farmers and collab-
orated with them to dis-
tribute the goods to area
food banks. United Com-
munities merged with
Libro Financial Group in
January, forming Libro
Credit Union.
"We're deeply hum-
bled to receive this hon-
our," said Liz Arkinstall,
Community Engagement
Manager at Libro Credit
Union. "Supporting our
local communities is one
of the ways we are help-
ing build prosperity in
southwestern Ontario.
The Farms to Food banks
program was created by
staff and the Board, and
has assisted thousands of
people in need. The
awareness raised by this
program has helped
highlight the issue of
hunger that so many face
in our region."
MACU was started in
1988 by credit union
marketers and suppliers
who joined together to
exchange ideas, build
relationships with their
peers and foster profes-
sional development for
credit union marketers
across the country.
Two new players
announced for the
Raise A Little Health
charity hockey game
Special to the News Record
Last week it was
announced that the
Hometown Heroes
"Raise a Little Health"
charity hockey game will
be taking place on July 24
in Goderich at the Mait-
land Recreation Centre.
The goal is to raise
$50,000 for three local
organizations; the
Goderich-Huron YMCA's
Strong Kids; Gateway
Centre of Excellence in
Rural Health; and Alex-
andra Marine & General
Hospital.
The game will feature
former and current NHL
stars, including former
Detroit Red Wings For-
ward and Stanley Cup
Champion, Boyd
Devereaux; current Colo-
rado Avalanche Forward
Ryan O'Reilly; and his
younger brother Cal
O'Reilly, who currently
plays for the Utica Com-
ets in the AHL.
The organizers of
Hometown Heroes are
happy to announce that
Brett Maclean, former
Phoenix Coyote Forward,
will be joining the roster.
In the summer of 2012,
Brett suffered cardiac
arrest while playing
some pick-up hockey
with friends in Owen
Sound. The arena was
equipped with an auto-
mated external defibril-
lator and this was used to
shock his heart until par-
amedics arrived on the
scene. This ultimately
ended his career as a
professional hockey
player, but it did not end
his passion for the sport.
"I'm excited to be tak-
ing part in this cause,
and as always, pretty
pumped to get out there
on the ice," said Brett.
For the past three
years, Brett has worked
together with friends as
well as the Heart and
Stroke Foundation to set
up the Bar Down for
Heart and Stroke Road
Hockey Tournament.
This year's tournament is
taking place June 13t to
15 at the Racquetball
Club in Port Elgin. For
more information please
contact Adam Rosner at
519-389-1504, or email
him at: adamrosner@
hotmail.com.
"We are delighted to
have Brett joining the
team, and we look for-
ward to 'raising a little
health' with him and
many others this July!"
said Member of Parlia-
ment for Huron -Bruce,
Ben Lobb.
You can purchase tick-
ets for the Hometown
Heroes charity hockey
game at M.P. Ben Lobb's

eral Hospital Gift Shop,

YMCA. You can also con-
