The meeting, hosted by the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, was well attended at the Holmesville Com- munity Centre. Candidates in attendance were Lib- eral Colleen Schenk, PC Lisa Thom- spon, NDP Jan Johnstone and Equal Parenting Party Dennis Valenta. The topic of wind turbines was touched upon several times. Thompson said her party would focus on other types of energy includ- ing nuclear, hydro and gas. "We are not anti -renewable but the Green Energy Act is nonsense," Thompson said. Johnstone said while the NDP was interested in continuing some wind and solar projects, they also would only do so in municipalities where they are welcomed. Schenk said that the Liberals have replaced coal plants with "clean energy." She said there were missteps in the implementation of the Green Energy Act and her party was improv- ing communications with municipali- ties and public groups. Later while questions were being taken from the floor, a representative from Huron East Against Turbines (HEAT) said he had never spoken with her, and he wasn't aware of her speak- ing with any members of that specific Fly group. He further asked what members she spoke with. After Schenk gave the names, the member said he was "insulted" by her answer. Organizers stated they wanted to stay on schedule so there were still a few people in line to ask questions from the floor, which upset some of the attendance. There were calls to allow the ques- tions to continue and even requests for a vote, but organizers said they had to move on. Candidates also spoke on rural health care. Thompson said there needs to be better treatment available for mental health in Huron -Bruce and they need to "remove barricades." "It breaks my heart when someone is told there is a wait list (for services)," she said. Johnstone said there needs to be more 24 hour family clinics. She said the NDP would forgive the debt of 200 medical students and give tax credits to people who take care of a sick fam- ily member. Schenk said the Liberals have a "great back record" in health care and they are committed to increasing home care and supportive services. Valenta stated a number of times that by reforming divorce law, many other issues would be solved. He said all the other parties have had their chance to fix the province's problems and "people who created the problems cannot fix them:' Cr7i Hity Coaqifirm Pant', Strong Families...
