Matter deferred to
budget meetings

The Clinton Public Hospital Foun-
dation has requested the town of
Goderich to once again become a
sponsor for its gala event.
Shana Barnim, director of the foun-
dation, addressed town councillors at
the Jan. 13 meeting.
"In the past, the town has been a
very generous with its platinum spon-
sorship," Barnim said.
The gala event, which will feature a
"Night in Paris" dinner with live auc-
tion and entertainment, will raise
funds for enhanced cataract services
at the hospital.
It is scheduled for June 14 at the
Central Huron Community Centre.
In exchange for the potential spon-
sorship, the town would be featured
in advertising prior to and at the
event.
Council passed a motion to defer
the request until budget negotiations
with Mayor Deb Shewfelt comment-
ing, "We'll see if we can do what we
did last year."

Bayfield youth nominated
for Junior Citizen Award
Volunteered with Special Olympics
b -ball team for four years
Signal Star Staff
A local youth has been nominated for a 2013 Ontario Jun-
ior Citizen of the Year Award.
Seventeen -year-old Jaymie Feltrin of Bayfield was nomi-
nated by Maureen Munden of Clarksburg.
In her nomination, Munden said Feltrin has been a volun-
teer with a Special Olympics basketball team for four years in
the Meaford-area.
"She attended practices every Tuesday evening and she
has joined us for parties and other social times," Munden
wrote.
"Jaymie has been a dedicated volunteer on our basketball
team...her dad is our assistant coach and it has been a nice
connection for them. Jaymie is fun and quiet at the same
time. She accepts our athletes for themselves and treats them
with kindess and ease. She has been a friend for some of
them and made the social nature of the team more fulfilling
for the athletes."
Munden said Feltrin's level of play has helped to raise the
overall skill level of the team, and she has "encouraged every-
one to excel."
Asked in the nomination form what she believes Feltrin
received from volunteering with the team, Munden wrote, "It
can be a challenge to play on a team of people with intellec-
tual disabilities. Each athlete has a different skill level and
Jaymie worked hard to accept and include each athlete."
Munden also described Feltrin as a "quiet leader" who
didn't ask for a lot of attention for her role but is always will-
ing to help.
"Jaymie's ability to 'not judge; her acceptance of others
who are different and her fun, quiet quirky nature have been
great to be around. We truly miss her this year."
According to a press release, the Ontario Junior Citizen
Awards aim to recognize outstanding young people, ages six
to 17, who are performing worthwhile community service,
are contributing to their communities while living with limi-
tations, have performed acts of heroism, or are "good kids"
who are making life better for others and doing more than
expected of someone their age.
The final list of recipients will be announced on Jan. 24.
