A budget increase that stood at 3.69%
at the beginning of Huron County coun-
cil's meeting Jan. 14 was eventually
knocked down to 1.5 %.
The tax increase on a $200,000 resi-
dential property would be $6.32.
The final tax rates and final figures will
be presented to council in early Febru-
ary, CAO Brenda Orchard said
afterwards.
Council agreed with two staff recom-
mendations from treasurer John Cum-
mings to slash $440,000 from the county
levy. One of them will see a capital
project fully funded from reserves - half
of the $250,000 was due to come from
the levy before that decision - the other
will see the county use leftover provin-
cial funding of $190,000 that was parked
in a facilities capital reserve for six years.
Reserve balances were a hot topic and
