There is a new face at the Clinton
Family Health Team.
Dietitian Laura McCann recently
started at the CHFT, with the goal of
helping manage and prevent disease
through nutrition.
The recent graduate of Brescia Uni-
versity College is in Clinton two and a
half days of the week - Tuesday morn-
ings and all day Wednesday and
Thursday.
Being a recent grad, McCann is up to
date on different ways of counseling
patients, and information available.
For the rest of the week, she works
as an in-store dietitian for Loblaw, at
Zerhs in Goderich and Kincardine. For
her, it's a natural extension of the job.
"It's nice balancing the two roles,"
she explained. "I can see patients here
and follow up at Zehrs with a store
tour."
That includes reading labels, learn-
ing what's in the food patients are eat-
ing, and stressing the importance of
perimeter shopping - which is where
the fresh food is located, regardless of
the store.
"Patients are all for it," she said. "A
lot find it to be really helpful."
Essentially, she said, it is about
teaching patients the benefits of pur-
chasing fresh food, as well as cooking
and preparing their own food. As part
of her role, she does nutrition coun-
seling with patients managing condi-
tions like weight or cholesterol, as well
as those with diabetes. Often, more
than one issue overlaps, ensuring a
wide range of topics to be covered.
McCann said her background in
cooking is a strong asset to the job,
allowing her to come up with meal and
recipe ideas that are individualized for
patients.
The service is free for any patient of
the health team, and McCann said it
can be a benefit to anyone, as small
changes can mean big benefits for
nutrition.

lot;' he said.
As a top priority, Roy says the facilities
review is necessary to clean up some of
the surplus buildings. He says he wants to
move forward with the progress they have
already made, admitting there is so much
they do not have control over, but will
continue to work for the people.
Roy says at Bluewater they have an
incredible staff, which enables them to do
the job of a councilor. "They are as good
as you will find."
Zurich Ward councilor Janisse Zimmerman
Council had several big successes in
2013 - completed the first Agricultural
Business Retention and Expansion
(BR&E) plan, held the first Huron Career
Fair and Business Trade Show, completed
construction of the new Bayfield Public
Library and started construction on the
new Zurich library.
I regret that Council did not have the
legislative authority to regulate the indus-
trial wind turbines coming into Bluewater
to ensure that our residents' concerns
were addressed. This authority was not
something that Council could obtain - it
had to be legislated by the province.
It is difficult to choose just one priority,
but if I had to it would be the completion
of the construction of the new Zurich
library. Other priorities are to complete a
Community Improvement Plan for the
Zurich Ward, see the construction of the
Zurich Woodlot Trail, which is a project
arising from the Zurich BR&E and gener-
ally move forward with economic devel-
opment projects within Bluewater.
I am going to run for office again
because there will be projects coming out
of the Zurich Community Improvement
Plan and I want to see them completed. I
feel that Bluewater is a wonderful place to
live and being on Council provides me
with the opportunity to make a contribu-
tion to improving our community.

advance. The demand is high, so a two-
month wait is not uncommon.
