After a gap of 13 years, meetings were once again held in the original chamber. They had been moved to the REACH Centre two years ago. To market The Clinton Farmers' Market has a strong showing in its first year downtown. Originally intended to wrap up mid-August, the market was extended into September. Next year, the market will be running from Victoria Day through to Thanksgiving weekends. Fireside Central Huron renewed a fire agreement with North Huron this year. The mutual aid agreement was initially renewed for only one year going into 2013, however the renewed agreement is for a full five years. Access denied Council chambers was filled with people asking that the road allowance at the end of Mill Road in western Central Huron be open for all. New owners at the bottom of Mill Road ended a years -long understanding between residents and the former owners that saw public access to the Maitland River through the municipal road allowance which ran through the property. Swap meet The Clinton Road Exchange project saw Central Huron and Huron County swap responsibil- ity for Railway Street and King Street respectively. While King Street was the primary route for trucks heading downtown, the swap to Railroad Street mean King would become a local road and truck traffic would be diverted from the busy and often tricky intersection. Cost of dying Cemetery fees in Central Huron took a significant upward turn in 2013. Interment rights for s single grave more than doubled from $250 to $550, and cremations and vault fees doubled. The munici- pality brought in $16,000 in cern- etery fees in 2012, while it spent $84,000 on services. OCTOBER Old nukes Council decided to revisit the possibility of a deep ground nuclear waste repository next year, after a year of sitting on the fence. While council was all but ready to drop the issue, they decided to try and engage the public once more in spring of 2014. Radar season The 2013-14 Clinton Radars had some added beef to the team after their previous season ended on a surprising note in playoffs. The Radars have been hovering between second and third place this year in the standings. Setting boundaries Thirty years of animosity between Goderich and Central Huron concluded amicably this October, as both councils received approval from Huron County on a boundary adjustment south of Goderich. Central Huron is giving Goderich land south of the town boundary to Dechert Road in exchange for water and sewer services south to Kitchigami Road. The municipalities still have to wait, however, as the Ministry of Municipal Affairs is still hung up on water lots. The land agreement received Central Huron's approval Oct. 8. Integrity indecision Council voted 4-3 against hiring an integrity commissioner selected by the municipal CAO in early October, as the selection was done without council consent. Council eventually settled on someone to fill the role in early December. Nobel intentions Clinton author Alice Munro received worldwide attention this October when it was announced she had won the Nobel Prize in Literature. She joins 17 other Canadians in the honour, and is only the 13th woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Munro's daughter accepted the award on her behalf in Stockholm, Sweden.
