Bluewater police costs
up 265 per cent with
new formula
Clinton News -Record
The Municipality of Bluewater is
asking the province to step in and
stop the implementation of the OPP's
new costing formula.
At their Jan. 20 meeting, council
voted unanimously in favour of asking
the province and Premier to abandon
the proposed model "in favour of a
billing model that is fair and equitable
and designed to meet the needs of
individual municipalities through
consultation during the development
of a new model.
Bluewater's current policing costs
are $734,200 - about $140 per
household.

The new model would see costs rise
to $1,945,737 - about $370 per house-
hold. The total increase is just over
$1.2 million, or 265 per cent.
In order to meet the proposed cost,
the municipality would have to raise
taxes by 20 per cent, according to a
report from CAO Steve McAuley.
In a recorded vote, council was
unanimous in their decision.
