Pork Producers president
believes province better
equipped to battle virus
CONTINUED FROM > PAGE 6
Amy Cronin, a Huron County farmer and chair of Ontario
Pork was on hand to address the issues.
Swine veterinarians also attended to answer questions
from farmers.
"I'm optimistic that the impact won't be as serious as in
the U.S.," Dykstra told the Signal Star.
That is not to say that Dykstra and other pork producers are
not concerned.
"The reality is we have a very hot virus and there is going to
be a spread," he said.
The virus has been confirmed to be highly contagious and
easily spread by the most minuscule amount of manure.
Dykstra said a friend in the industry told him, "pork pro-
ducers should consider that the virus might be everywhere."
"We simply cannot track anything into our barns," he
added.
Huron County is second only to Perth County in pork pro-
duction in the province, Dykstra said, estimating 16% of
Ontario's pork comes from the county.
"That's a big part of any potential loss."
With speculation that the virus will have an effect on pork
prices, Dykstra said, "sound logic would say with less produc-
tion, prices will likely go up."
Pork industry and government officials have stressed that
the virus poses no threats to humans.

and Ontario Regulation 359;1119 ('Regulation').
This notice must be distnbuted in accordance
with Section 16.0.1 of the Regulation. This notice
is being distributed to make the public aware of a
proposed change to the Project
Project Description:
Pursuant to the Act and Regulation, this Project
cone € f a Class 4 Wind Energy Facility. If
approved, as submitted this Project orad have a
total maximum nameplate capacity of 1°0 MW
and would taaVe cOneiated of up to d grind
tun f ides 8r1 privately owned lewd lertr3.. The
Project also includes step-up transformers,
electrical collection and transmission lines, a
parts and sear v e fie ,r maintenance) building,
a substation, and S'1dlchyerd to connect to the
Hydra One power -line {prOvinoiel grid), as .1J8.II .es
other ancillary facilities such es temporary
construction areas and turbine access reads with
culvert crossings, where required.
A change Is being proposed to the Project. As
toted .above. the original application proposed to
Include ,Ip to 4B Siemens S1INT-2.3-113 direct
drive wind turbine generators rs with a total name
plate capacity of 100 M. Northland continues to
seek approval for the 4S turbine locations. brat
requires a change of the turbine'S Model b the
Siemens .S NT -3.O-113 turbines. While gill Raiding
the Pity's total name plate pacityr to 100 MW.
With the use or this new turbine there are a
number of benefits to the Project and the
a Renewable Energy Project
with Northland Power Inc. as agent
e.ominuriity. Ttt. new SWT -3.0 -Ila turbine will
only require 40 turbine locations to be
constructed. The extra B turbine locations are
only beim permitted should one or more -QF the
preferred 40 locations. not be constructible due to
unexpected geotinicai conditions or some
other factor(s). This modification is passable due
to the higher MW output of the Siemens SW'T-
3.0.113 turbine versus the original SWT -2.3-l13
turbile, Another beneficial feature is that the
SWT -3.0-113 turbine which will be operated at
2.48. IMW output w17I reduce noise levels at all the
fiNCEtribbr locations as compared to the SWT -2.0-
113 model that was originally proposed. The
turbine locations, tower height. and blade length
proposed in the original application are not
changing.
