This includes the staff and volunteers at Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre (HCFBDC) and on August 7th the centre hosted its first annual gala event called, Be Still and Know. The event took place at the Vanastra Community Christian Reformed Church and over 100 people attended. The aim of the event was to address the hunger and poverty in Huron County and raise aware- ness of the fact that some individu- als have a difficult time acquiring and eating healthy food. August 20 Young woman from Clinton to play in 2014 Summer Youth Olym- pics in China Lexi Aitken, a young woman from Clinton, is without a doubt at the top of her game right now. At only 16 years old she has shown Canada what a very talented athlete she is. Now she is about to show this to the world as last week she left for Nan- jing, China to attend the 2nd Sum- mer Youth Olympic Games being held from August 16 until 28. August 27 Clinton artist presents her work at local gallery There are very talented artists in the area as well as many great gal- leries that showcase this talent. Susan Hay, a 30 year resident of Huron County, is by now surely considered to be one of those great artists and her work is currently being presented at the Co-op Gal- lery in Goderich where she is the guest artist for the month of August. September 3 2014 Annual Flower Show report Phloc and dill along with other fragrances filled the air at the Clin- ton Horticultural Society Flower Show and Toonie Cafe held in the basement of the Heartland Com- munity Church on Friday, August 15. In the afternoon visitors enjoyed the Flower Show and then the Toonie Cafe where they were served goodies, fresh fruit and beverage including herb tea. Our judge, Sha- ron Nivins from Lucknow area, was happy with the show. September 17 Ceremony to honor those behind MacNaughton-Morrison Trail A community committee has been working all year on projects to cele- brate the Tenth Anniversary of the MacNaugton-Morrison section of the South Huron Trail. The commit- tee invites you to a short ceremony to honor the landowners along the trail and other people in the community who have made the trail possible. The ceremony is to take place Satur- day, September 27th 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Harvest Celebration Tent at the corner of Bladwin and Main streets in Exeter, Ontario. September 17 Local church celebrates 25th anniversary This year the Vanastra Community Christian Reformed Church is cele- brating its 25th anniversary as an organized church and invites the community to join them this week- end. On September 20th from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. the church will be hosting a BBQ picnic lunch which will include games for the young and old, a bouncy castle and face painting and on September 21st at 10 a.m. it will hold a celebratory worship service followed by a light lunch reception. September 24 Animal abandonment an increasing issue in rural Ontario Getting the word out is at the top of Amanda Budny's long list of pri- orities. The Benmiller area resident and owner of angora rabbits received a phone call this past summer from her friend concern- ing several bunnies she found abandoned on the side of a gravel road outside of Carlow. September 24 Suspect in Don Frigo murder arrested at Pearson Boris Panovski, wanted in the shooting death of Vaughn con- struction executive Donato Frigo near Clinton, has been arrested. Panovski, 70, was arrested at Pear- son International Airport "without incident," Ontario Provincial Police announced Monday in a news release. Panovski was re-entering Canada Sunday evening when he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Police did not say where ATTENTION ADVERTISERS! October 1 Huron Career Fair The 2nd annual Huron Career Fair and Business trade Show 2014 is wel- coming back students, job seekers and exhibitors at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Wingham on Wednesday, October 1st from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The career fair features interactive booths, activities, presentation and door prizes and is a great opportunity to meet employers and speakwith col- lege representatives to explore educa- tion, career and work possibilities. October 8 Central Huron candidates speak The Central Huron 2014 municipal election will take place on October 27th. The new term of office will start on December 1st 2014 and run through until November 30th 2018. Central Huron council consists of the mayor, deputy mayor, three councilors from the west ward and three coun- cilors from the eastward. In this year's election, six councilors will be elected; Mayor Jim Ginn and Deputy Mayor David Jewitt are running uncontested. In this years election also a total of four people are running for west ward councilor, normallyAlison Lobb and Burkhard Metzger (both ofwhom cur- rently sit on council) as well as new comers, Patrick Nagle and Genny Smith. For this position a total of three people will be elected. October 8 Food banks and communities struggle during the holiday season Many people do not realize the extent of hunger's reach in Canada, let alone where they live. Food banks across Huron County feel the pressure of high -demand during holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. But did you know fami- lies seek food banks during normal times of the year such as back to school and March Break. October 15 Braving the cold at the Alzheimer Society Spooky Trail Run More than 60 runners and walk- ers from all over Huron County per- severed through some chilly morn- ing temperatures to raise money for a great cause on Oct4th. In the spirit of Halloween, the Alzheimer Society of Huron County hosted their 2nd annual fall run with a 5k, 10k and kids run on the trails of Central Huron. "We had an awesome turn out and the weather cooperated as best it could," said Brittany Williams, events coordinator. "Overall it was a really fun day.
