Not only did the children and youth helpers leam how to prepare food, but they learned how to appreciate food. Every kid needs to develop a relationship with their food," explained Peach, the 22 -year- old Coordinator and Creator of Kids in the Kitchen Summer Day Camp. "It is not automatic knowledge to know what nourishes" "It's very important that deci- sions on the grant awards are made locally to reflect the needs of the communities we serve across southwestern Ontario, said Stephen Bolton, Libro Credit Union President & CEO. "Our governance struc- ture is unique at Libro. Each of our 27 branches has a council made up of Owner Representa- tives who ensure community priorities are met. The Branch Councils, along with staff, work closely together in the grant evaluation process and award selection: Grants are awarded to com- munity development programs and projects where youth up to age 25 playa pivotal role. The Community Builder Grant Program offers two fund- ing levels. Larger grants range between $20,000 and $150,000 per year and are reviewed by the Community Investment Advisory Panel, made up of Owner Representatives, mem- bers of Libro's Board of Direc- tors and staff. Branch grants range between $5,000 and $10,000 per year and are reviewed by Libro's 27 individ- ual Branch Councils. Libro awarded 39 Commu- nity Builder grants this year across southwestern Ontario, for a total amount of $691,675. In addition to the Community Builder Grant Program, Libro invests back in its 21 communi- ties through a robust Sponsor- ships and Donations program for local initiatives and organi- zations that support and reflect the unique needs of each com- munity Libro belongs to. In2015, Libro will be introduc- ing a Community Engagement Program focused on growing regional prosperity through the following three focus areas: • Youth development and leadership • Regional economic development • Money smarts Photos submitted Pictured here are the Huron Perth community builder recipients, namely, (from left to right) Marty Rops, Libro Credit Union; Stephanie Robertson, Listowel Agricultural Society; Mel Knox, Camp Menesetung; Jeff McCallum, Libro Credit Union; Ray Chowen, Libro Credit Union; Rick Hoevenaars, Libro Credit Union; Cassandra Lindner, The Local Community Food Centre; Aaron Meeb, Huron Business Development Corporation; Nicole Katerberg, Listowel District Secondary School Music Department; Kathy Douglas, Huron Perth Summer Traveling Day Camp; Nathan Hern, Hensall Kinsmen; Allie Penner, Rotaract Club of Strafford; Jenna Weber, Belmore Chamber of Commerce; Genelle Reid, Goderich Lions Club; Cindy Hamather, Seaforth Public School; Sean Mitchell, Brussels Leo Club; Rachel Skillen, South Huron Optimist Club Pictured here are Hensall Kinsmen members, namely, (from left to right) Libro Credit Union's Ray Chowen, Nathan Hern and Donna Taylor.
