Minister of Public Relations
December has begun and
the Christmas spirit is upon
us. Plenty of events are tran-
spiring at the school before
the Christmas break beings.
One such event is St.
Anne's annual Evening of the
Arts. This event featured vari-
ous musical and theatrical
performances from St. Anne's
students. There was also a
variety of artwork to observe.
Tickets for the Semi For-
mal dance at St. Anne's have
also started to go on sale. The
theme for Semi Formal this
year is based off the novel
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott
Fitzgerald. This novel
embodies the iconic jazz era
of the 1920s. Approaching
Christmas, Students for
Social Justice have begun
selling Fair Trade items dur-
ing lunch. These items make
great Christmas gifts, as well
as support principles of
decency and fairness in how
goods are sold.
Next week on Tuesday,
Dec. 16th, St. Anne's will be
holding our Advent Mass in
the gym. This event helps
both staff and students to

Cut back, quit and win big in 2015
Young adults and post-
secondary students in
Huron County can win big
in 2015 by cutting back,
quitting or staying smoke
free.
The 2015 "wouldu-
rather... contest", hosted by
the Huron County Health
Unit and Leave the Pack
Behind, offers cash prizes
of up to $2,500.
Young adults between
the ages of 18 to 29 pledge
to quit smoking, reduce
their smoking, or stay
smoke-free during the six-
week contest period. Reg-
istered students of any age
at a publically funded
post -secondary institution
in Ontario can also enter
the contest.
"If you've decided to
take the step of quitting
smoking or cutting back,
this contest is a great addi-
tional motivation," said
Julie Verch, public health
nurse. "And it's not just for
smokers. Non-smokers age
18 to 29 can sign up for a
chance to win prizes as
well. It's all about giving
yourself the gift of health
in 2015."

Applications for Canada
Summer Jobs program
being accepted
On Dec. 4, Huron -Bruce
MP Ben Lobb announced
that employers can now
apply for funding under
Canada Summer Jobs
2015.
This funding will create
thousands of job opportu-
nities for students across
the country.
Funding will be availa-
ble to not-for-profit organ-
izations, public -sector
employers and small busi-
nesses to hire qualified
young people aged 15 to
30, who are full-time stu-
dents and intend to return
to school in the fall. It is
estimated that up to 35,000
young Canadians will ben-
efit from summer
employment while helping
employers address skills
shortages.
"Our government's pri-
orities are creating jobs,
economic growth and
long-term prosperity,"
Lobb said. "Through Can-
ada Summer Jobs, we are
helping young Canadians
get the skills and experi-
ence they need to get jobs
now and in the future. I
encourage employers to
apply for funding to create
jobs that will help stu-
dents, employers and their
local economies.
Employers may submit
applications at www.ser-
vicecanada.gc.ca/csj by
Jan. 30, 2015.
2015. The contest runs
from Jan. 26 to March 9,
2015.
Health Unit officials said
research shows that with
the motivation of winning
a prize about 20 per cent of
young adults who partici-
pate in the wouldurather...
contest successfully quit
smoking and stay smoke-
free. Without the addi-
tional incentive, only
about five per cent would
do so.
