Central Huron man faces several charges after traffic stop

CENTRAL HURON - A
traffic stop just north of Bay-
field has resulted in several
charges against a Central
Huron man.
Huron County OPP said in
a media release that the inci-
dent unfolded just after 2:00
a.m. on Nov 29. A According
to police, an officer observed
a vehicle travelling north-
bound on Bluewater Veter-
an's Highway and a traffic
stop was initiated to check
on the sobriety of the driver.
Officers attempted to
speak with the driver how-
ever the driver failed to iden-
tify himself.
Police said officers then
instructed the driver to
unlock the vehicle doors and
exit the vehicle. The driver
failed to comply with the
demands of the officers.
Officers ultimately gained
entry into the vehicle and
were able to arrest the driver
for failing to identify
himself.
Upon searching the driver,
officers located and seized a
quantity of marijuana. Addi-
tionally, the arresting officer
noted the driver had been
drinking alcohol. A demand
was given to the driver to
provide a sample of his
breath into the roadside
screening device. The driver
refused to provide a sample
of his breath to the investi-
gating officer and was fur-
ther arrested for failing to
provide a sample of his
breath.
Subsequent checks on the
driver and vehicle revealed
the attached license plates
were not authorized for the
Subaru, the vehicle was not
insured and the driver held a
suspended driver's license,
police said.
As a result, the accused, a
57 -year-old male from Cen-
tral Huron, has been charged
with failure to provide a
breath sample, possession of
marijuana, failure to provide
identification, driving while
suspended and operating a
motor vehicle without insur-
ance and using invalid
plates.
He is scheduled to appear
in Goderich court on Jan.
19. His driver's license was
suspended for an automatic
90 days and his motor vehi-
cle was impounded for
seven days.
GODERICH - A 34 -year-
old female from Goderich is
accused over being over the
limit following a traffic stop
on Nov 29, 2014.

where (R.I.D.E) program
when they noticed a Toyota
Corolla turn off just before
the R.I.D.E checkpoint. An
officer followed the vehicle
and subsequently stopped
the driver at the intersection
of East Street and Maitland
Road North.
A sobriety check was com-
pleted which revealed the
female driver had been
drinking alcohol. A road-
side -screening test was
administered and the driver
registered a fail. She was
arrested and subsequently
transported to the Huron
OPP detachment for breath
tests. She provided two sam-
ples of her breath to a quali-
fied intoxilizer technician
and both samples registered
over the legal limit.
As a result, the accused
has been charged with drive
motor vehicle - over 80 mil-
ligrams of alcohol.
She is scheduled to appear
in Goderich court on Jan. 5.

Bluewater man for

BLUEWATER - A 43 -year-
old male driver from Blue -
water is facing impaired
charges after police stopped
him on Dec. 4.
According to police, just
before 10:00 p.m. Huron
County OPP officers were
conducting a Reduce
Impaired Driving Every-
where (R.I.D.E) program on
Zurich-Hensall Road when a
white Ford Van entered the
checkpoint.
Police said upon speaking
with the driver the officer
noted the driver had been
drinking alcohol. A road-
side -screening test was
administered and the driver
registered a fail. He was
arrested and subsequently
transported to the Exeter
OPP detachment for breath
tests. He provided two sam-
ples of his breath to a quali-
fied intoxilizer technician
and both tests registered
over the legal limit.
As a result, the accused
from Bluewater has been
charged with drive motor
vehicle - over 80 milligrams
of alcohol.
He has a court appearance
scheduled in Exeter on Dec.
18. He received an auto-
matic 90 -day driver's license
suspension and his motor
vehicle was impounded for
seven days.
Man held in custody after
fleeing from police
HOWICK TSWP. - A male
driver faces three criminal
charges after he failed to
stop for police on the morn-
ing of Dec. 5.
According to police,
Huron County Ontario OPP
officers had received infor-
mation from South Bruce
OPP officers to be on the
lookout for a Pontiac Grand
Prix that had fled from offic-
ers in Bruce County a few
hours earlier.

Police said at approxi-
mately 12:20 a.m. Huron
County OPP officers spotted
the suspect vehicle travelling
southbound from Wroxeter
on Brussels Line.
Officers activated their
emergency lights and siren
and attempted to stop the
suspect vehicle. The driver
fled from the officers and
after following the suspect
vehicle a short distance
officers terminated their
efforts.
Officers began patrolling
the area whereupon they
located the suspect vehicle,
which had been involved in
a single motor vehicle
collision.
The suspect vehicle left
the roadway and came to
rest in a corn field near the
intersection of C Line Road
and McDonald Line. The
driver/lone occupant of the
vehicle was located at the
scene. He had been partially
ejected from the torn apart
Grand Prix.
Officers tended to the
driver and provided first aid
until Huron County EMS
arrived on scene. The driver
was transported to a local
hospital with non -life threat-
ening injuries.
As a result a 29 -year-old
male from Brussels has been
charged with the following
offences:
• Flight from Police con-
trary to section 249.1(1)
Criminal Code
• Dangerous Driving con-
trary to section 249(1)(a)
Criminal Code
• Drive While Disqualified
contrary to section 259 (4)
Criminal Code
He was held in custody
with a court date scheduled
for Dec. 8 in Goderich.
Driver facing impaired
care and control charge
ASHFIELD - COL-
BORNE-WAWANOSH - A
driver's search for a funnel to
refuel his car prompted a call
to police and ultimately led
to several charges against
him.
According to police, at
approximately 9:21 a.m. on
Nov. 30, Huron County OPP
officers were alerted to a
driver that was parked on
Belfast Road that was
attempting to find a funnel
to refuel his Oldsmobile.
Within a few minutes a
Huron OPP officer located
the suspect vehicle parked
on Belfast Road near Tower
Line.
The driver stepped out of
his vehicle holding a gaso-
line canister and proceeded
to inform the officer that he
ran out of gasoline while he
was out driving around look-
ing
ooking for his dog.
Police said upon speaking
with the driver it was noted
the driver had been drinking
alcohol and was displaying
several signs that he was
impaired by alcohol. The
officer placed the driver
under arrest for the offence
of impaired care and control
of a motor Vehicle.
He was then transported
to the Huron OPP Detach-
ment for breath tests. He
provided two samples of his
breath to a qualified intoxi-
lizer Technician and both
tests registered over the legal
limit.
Further checks on the
driver and the vehicle
revealed the driver held a
suspended driver's licence
and the motor vehicle was
uninsured and was improp-
erly plated.
As a result, a 68 -year-old
male from Ashfield-Col-
borne-Wawanosh has been
charged with the following
offences: impaired care and
control of a motor vehicle,
care and control over 80 mil-
ligrams of alcohol, drive
motor vehicle - no Insur-
ance, drive while suspended
and use plate not authorized
for vehicle.
He has since been
released from custody with a
court date scheduled in
Goderich on Dec. 22.
He also received an auto-
matic 90 -day driver's licence
suspension and his vehicle
was impounded.
