Mayor Jim Ginn, Deputy
Mayor David Jewitt, return-
ing councillors, Marg Ander-
son, Danny Colquhoun, Ali-
son Lobb, Burkhard Metzger,
Alex Westerhout as well as
new councillor, Genny
Smith, all swore a declara-
tion of Oath of Office at the
Municipality of Central
Huron's inaugural council
meeting last Monday
afternoon.
In his inaugural speech,
Ginn extended congratula-
tions to the council mem-
bers and welcomed Smith.
He also reminded council
that it ought to work on the
"best interests of our munici-
pality first and make deci-
sions based on that" and
read a section of an article
concerning the role of
municipal government as a
way to inspire council as it
moves forward in the new
term.
After Ginn's speech, des-
sert and refreshments were
served for council, staff,
family and friends in the
council chamber and
shortly after the council
meeting resumed.
One item of business dis-
cussed at the brief yet sig-
nificant inaugural meeting
included the Rural Eco-
nomic Development (RED)
funding for the develop-
ment of the REACH Strate-
gic Plan.
With regard to the fund-
ing, Jewitt asked how coun-
cil can ensure that, going
forward, REACH shares the
same overall vision as
council.
CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-
West replied by saying that
there will be a "back and
forth" between REACH and
Central Huron and that
each party will communi-
cate their respective goals.
In the end, the bylaw to
support the funding was
passed.
