Starting at 4:30 p.m., Main Street in Blyth, or Hwy #4, will be packed with people as they enjoy a seasonal feast hosted by the Blyth Arts & Cultural Initiative 14/19 Inc. The purpose of the Blyth Arts & Cultural Initiative 14/19 Inc. is to promote a mix of arts, culture, com- merce and education in order to create a dynamic and versatile community. The initiative was created in response to various businesses leaving the area, a lack of nearby employment opportunities and the small number of young people who reside here. The hope is that the project will bring busi- nesses, employment and young people back to the community. The project was given the name, 14/19, because organizers have given themselves five years - from 2014 to 2019 - to raise the $6 million needed to fund their ideas. 2014 also marks the 40th anniversary of the Blyth Festival and 2019 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Blyth Memorial Community Hall. As Peter Smith, the pro- ject director, says, "Almost 100 years ago, a group of people had an idea and that idea became Blyth Community Hall. Almost 40 years ago, a group of people had an idea, that idea became the Blyth Fes- tival. 14/19 is another group for people with an idea - Create a cultural hub in Blyth that reaches county wide." As Karen Stewart, the project administrator, says, both the festival and the hall were created as a result of a "creative impulse," and this is some- thing that organizers behind the project want to keep going more than anything. Guests at the event on Sunday will be served a multi -course dinner pre- pared by Chef Jason Rut- ledge of the Blyth Inn and Chef Peter Gusso of Part II Bistro in Blyth. In particu- lar, the dinner will feature the food of Huron County. Musicians, singers and vis- ual artists will also be in attendance. get itnline clintonnewsrecord.com (724,wrch - t ZfJe %uite *ea 76 Vend* at ?lege raea (,Jluulrz¢: Clinton United Church 105 Ontario Street Minister Rev. The craftsmanship of James Mintz, the textures of Anne Laviolette, and the new still life of Madeleine Roske were discussed on a recent tour with Devon. Well known artist Susan Hay, who resides in Ben - miller and Haliburton, will be the guest artist for August at the Co-op Gal- lery. Painting seriously since 2000, Susan has been a regular exhibitor in local shows for many years. This past year was a banner year for Susan; her show enti- tled "Colours of the Land" was held at the Blyth Festi- val Art Gallery, "Land- scapes Alive" was held in the Ethel Curry Gallery in Haliburton and she won the Huron Arts and Herit- age Network Individual Artist award. Landscapes are Susan's passion although she paints in a number of different styles and other subject matters. Lately inspired by a trip to see her daughter and family in the Yukon, Susan used photo refer- ences from this trip to cre- ate this new work. Susan's work is also exhibited at the Clinton Health Centre, the Main Street Gallery in Bayfield, Rail's End Gallery in Hali- burton on occasion at Eliz- abeth's Gallery, Goderich, and on the Tour de Forest Stdio Rour in Haliburton. See Susan's website at www.susanhay.ca for addi- tional work. The Goderich Co-op Gallery is located at 54 Courthouse Square, and is always staffed by a working artist. Visit www.gcgallery. ca or phone 519-440-0523 for more information. As mentioned in our guest - book, the gallery has a great layout, and is warm and inviting with a won- derful selection of art available.
