Massive tree crushed pelvis of Toronto woman during tornado

The focus surrounding the
July 27th tornado that ripped
through Grand Bend and area
has spotlighted on the dam-
age to area homes and prop-
erties, but up until now, no
one has heard about
Amy Boileau .
Boileau, 36, is from Toronto
and has a five-year old son. It
was two days into the two-
week camping trip she was
enjoying as an annual family
vacation at the outside edges
of the Pinery Provincial Park
when the fun came to an
abrupt end.
It was close to 7:30 p.m.
when a rainstorm suddenly
became a tornado. "There was
no warning; it happened light-
ning quick," says her niece
Ayshia Ceelan from informa-
tion received from family who
was in the Park at the time.
"A massive tree crushed
Amy, who was sitting at a pic-
nic table under a tarp, holding
her son. Amazingly, her son
sustained no injuries, how-
ever, Boileau suffered a bro-
ken pelvis, a shattered
sacrum, and internal
bleeding. She was taken to a
local hospital first, and then
sent on to London Victoria
hospital, where she under-
went surgery 48 hours later."
Area EMS units, fire and OPP
were on the scene.
Boileau, who lives in
Toronto, runs two home busi-
nesses and, "She does not
have the luxury of sick bene-
fits, accidental coverage or
adequate savings to see her
through the upcoming rehab
process," said family
members.
"There is much challenge
ahead for Boileau and her
friends and family who will do
whatever we can in the way of
reaching out for financial
assistance," said the fundrais-
ing website, adding this has
been an expensive crisis
already, with immediate fam-
ily temporarily relocating to
London to support her
recovery.
"It will be some weeks
before Boileau is able to
return to Toronto and the last
word from the surgeon was to
expect that she will not to be
able to do the stairs up to her
apartment for at least six
months. That means upon
Boileau's release from the
hospital, we will need to find
alternate living arrangements
for her as she will be unable to
handle the stairs to her sec-
ond floor apartment for quite
some time."
Ceelan, who is leading the
charge, said they are reaching
out to anyone who is willing
and able to make a contribu-
tion of any size. "Please know
that your donation will be
received with deep gratitude,
and will be carefully spent."
Ceelan explains that Boi-
leau has had two surgeries
that have mostly stabilized
her pelvis and to mend her
shattered sacrum. " She has
external stabilizing bars
coming out of her hip bones
which she will live with for
the next three months. We
are looking at where she
will live as she will need to
have a totally accessible liv-
ing space," explained Cee-
lan emphasizing they still
really have no clue what to
expect of the recovery, both
physically and financially.
"We are just trying to be
well prepared in a situation
that remains very
uncertain."

We are happy to announce that after a long 4 months we are all healthy, happy and home together.
Our deepest gratitude to our staff that stuck with us, picking up extra duties without hesitation...
YOU really are the best! A warm thank you to all who sent cards, dropped off meals and prayed for us.
Thanks to our loyal customers for your understanding this season and many kind words.
Thank you to Jack and Heather Vandorp for lending us a vehicle to have in London so our van could
stay at home. To our amazing friends, your calls, visits and love gave us strength...you know who you
are and we love you! A special shout out to (Grammie) Lynn and Sandy who really helped out with our
older kids at a moments notice. Finally, Grandmas and Grandpas (Tom & Sharron Moore and Jerry &
Gladys Greydanus) we never could have done it without your help and support.
