Association is to "provide leadership and
assist in the promotion of education and
interest in all areas of horticulture and
related environmental issues in Ontario,
through an expanding network of horticul-
tural societies dedicated to the beautifica-
tion of their communities." Some of the
association's projects include beautifying
local parks, planting boxes in downtown
areas and creating and maintaining public
gardens around govemment buildings and
hospitals. It also produces a newsletter
called the Trillium, which all society mem-
bers may submit to, and holds an annual
convention which offers educational
opportunities. The association is a volun-
teer, charitable organization and, as such, it
relies on the support of its members, volun-
teers and charitable donations. Currently,
there are 282 horticultural societies in
Ontario.
The Clinton Horticultural Society is in
District 8 of the Ontario Horticultural Asso-
ciation which covers Bruce, Grey and
Huron counties. It has been in existence
since 1890 and its floral emblem is the Clin-
tonia Borealis. From March until Novem-
ber, the society meets on the third Wednes-
