OCOA asks hunters to make 2014 turkey hunt a safe one
The 2014 spring wild turkey season in most of
Ontario opened on April 25 and is a result of the
reintroduction of wild turkeys to Ontario in the late
1980s.
The subsequent growth of turkey populations
allowed for a limited hunt that has expanded over
the years as the number of birds continues to grow.
The spring wild turkey hunt has become very pop-
ular over the years, so does the potential for abuse of
both the resource and the private land upon which
most hunting takes place, officials from the Ontario
Conservation Officers Association (OCOA) stated in
a recent press release.
Officials said the combination of mandatory tur-
key hunter education program, responsible hunters,
and active enforcement efforts by conservation offic-
ers has resulted in many seasons of safe hunts.
"Even though the vast majority of hunters obey the
law, conservation officers continue to find a small
percentage of individuals who disregard the regula-
tions while turkey hunting',' says OCOA President Joe
McCambridge, himself a field conservation officer in
Pembroke and active turkey hunter. "We will con-
tinue to actively enforce the law and ensure that the
sport of turkey hunting continues to be a safe sport."
Hunters are reminded that permission is required
to hunt on private land, where most turkey hunting
occurs.
It is illegal in most of southern Ontario to hunt on
or from public road right of ways between tracts of

AMGH Invites You to an Important Community
Meeting You Will Not Want to Miss!
Monday, May 12 2014 - 7 to 8 pm
Knights of Columbus Community Hall,
390 Parsons Court Goderich
We know that the choices and plans we make today define our future,
and in this quickly changing healthcare environment, it has never been
as important as it is now to be the creators of our own future.
The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital recently undertook a
journey to revitalize the hospital's vision, strategic priorities and clinical
areas of focus that will drive optimal patient care, and position us to
meet service goals and needs. We talked with a lot of people and asked
a lot of questions. We engaged our staff and physicians, community and
service partners in helping shape our future healthcare together.
AMGH is now at an important juncture in the journey where we would
like an opportunity to share with you the results of this planning, and
discuss what it may mean for you and your family's healthcare now and
in the future. It will be an opportunity to report back on information
of interest, and to keep you informed on the challenges and pressures
facing healthcare in small rural communities such as ours.
Please join us for a conversation about healthcare in your hospital.
