Clinton woman alerts
OPP to fake
collections scammers
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) is investigating an attempted
scam that was reported to police yester-
day afternoon. A Clinton resident
reported she received a call at home from
a female that identified herself as an
employee of the Canada Revenue Agency.
The female provided a bogus case
number and complaint number and pro-
ceeded to tell the resident she owed an
outstanding tax bill of $3,800.
At that point a male picked up the
phone and also identified himself as a
Canada Revenue Agency employee. He
spoke with an aggressive tone and tried to
intimidate the resident. He demanded
the female make a decision within one
hour on how she was going to pay her
outstanding tax bill, stating if she didn't
take immediate action the police would
be at her door within three hours to arrest
her and take her to jail.

The scammer instructed the resident to
purchase "Home Depot" and "Safeway"
gift cards. Once the cards were purchased
she was to provide him with the authori-
zation codes to clear off her outstanding
balance.
The Clinton resident reported the caller
was very aggressive, argumentative and
threatening to her.
Huron County OPP would like to
remind everyone to be extremely skepti-
cal of any unsolicited communication
from people purporting to be from the
Canada Revenue Agency. The communi-
cation has high potential to be a scam
whether it is through the telephone, mail,
or email. Be especially careful if there is a
request for personal information.
Also be aware: the OPP and RCMP do
not contact individuals for the purposes
of collecting fines or taxes and never asks
the public to make a payment over the
telephone.
To report a fraud call the Canadian
Anti -Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or
go online at www.antifraudcentre.ca
Alternatively, you can report fraud to the
OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

questions
Premier on
deleted gas
plant files
MPP Huron -Bruce Lisa Thompson
took advantage of Question Period
Wednesday, April 2 to ask the Premier
what she knew about deleted informa-
tion regarding the $1.1 billion gas plant
scandal. Thompson's question focused
on documents on computer hard drives
that were allegedly deleted by former
Liberal contract employee Peter Faist.
"We know you wanted to hide the
details of the gas plant scandal, and that
ended up costing tax payers $1.1 bil-
lion'; Thomson said in the Legislature.
"But who knows what else was on those
hard drives. Premier, can you tell this
house if Mr. Faist, or anyone else for
that matter, deleted other secrets."
Other files Thompson was alluding to
include Ornge and eHealth and Liber-
als' deal with Samsung.
Premier Wynne refused to answer the
question herself, instead referring to
Liberal House Leader John Milloy for a
deflection.
Addressing the Premier, Thompson
continued "you said earlier, and I para-
phrase, you are happy to debate the
truth any day. So Premier, I am asking
you, not the House Leader, can you
confirm today that files related to other
scandals like eHealth and Ornge were
not also destroyed?"
Once again, Premier Wynne refused
to answer the question herself.
