Art Auction Chair Liz Sangster and committee board member Linda McCall are presented with a painting
for Hensall's upcoming art auction fundraiser. The piece, entitled Forest Splendour Blues, was donated by
Clinton artist Joan Bailey.
Hensall town hall getting
rejuvenated for 100th anniversary
Since 1914, the Hensall
Town Hall has been a hub of
the community, serving as a
library, council chambers,
fire hall, works department
and even a small jail over the
years.
Upstairs, the old opera
house stage and gallery still
boasts the hardwood and tin
ceilings of long ago, but they
have fallen into disuse over
the past 50 years.
In recent years, a grass-
roots effort to restore the hall
to its former glory has been
underway, bringing the cen-
tury -old structure in line
with the modern age with
electrical, heating and cool-
ing and accessibility while
still keeping its original look
and features.
The Friends of the Upper
Hall are seeking donations to
make the necessary work
happen, both through events
and their family wall - a wall
of plaques with the names of
donors and their families.
A fundraiser to restore the
Hensall Town Hall is took
place Friday March 28 at
Hensall United Church. The
Six Vocal Ensemble - an a
cappella group out of Lon-
don - performed in their award-win-
ning style.
On Saturday, April 26, there will be
an art auction at the Hensall Arena,
with works coming from Hensall's own
Pat Cook as well as many well known
artists from Exeter, London, Goderich,
Bayfield, Stratford and beyond.
Tickets are $30 before April 1 and $35
after or at the door.
The committee is still accepting art
donations.
