What does Santa's house look like? We asked
From the ground up
Mrs. Binotto-Peel's Grade 1C class at Maitland River Elementary School had some thoughts
on what exactly Santa Claus' home looks like. Those thoughts expanded to his workshop and
the North Pole itself. Back row, from left: Substitute teacher Miss Dodds, Steven, Blake, Nikolai,
Jay, Alayna, Wesley, Damien, Skylar and Nash. Front row, from left: Nia, Alaida, Farrah,
Josephine, Dylan, Isla, Zara, Sadie and Ryan. (Denny Scott photo)
When Mrs. Binotto-Peel's Grade
1C class cast their mind to the North
Pole to describe Santa's village,
home and workshop, a lot of them
thought of a traditional, wooden
house, some thought of elves and all
of them thought of something that
would make the jolly old elf right at
home.
"Santa's workshop looks pretty
full with all the toys that are in it. We
have an Elf named Elfie in the
classroom and Elfie told us about
Santa's magic on the first day of
school and his magic showed us the
workshop. It has hammers."
Nia
"The North Pole, that's where
Santa lives, looks like a bunch of
elves working at their work stations.
They are making toys at work
benches. Santa lives in the
workshop. He and Mrs. Claus have a
room to sleep in there."
Farrah
"I think there are a lot of toys at
Santa's house. There is a present
maker there too. The elves put the
toys in the present makers and it
wraps the presents for them and the
gifts come out the other side. The
elves make toys in Santa's house and
it's brown."
Wesley
"There are a lot of elves at Santa's
house, and frost on the windows too.
It's hard to say what it looks like
because it's always snowing at the
North Pole. There are lots of toys
there."
Isla
"Santa has a lot of toys inside his
house and outside he has just a
normal house but with lots of
Christmas decorations. There are
snowmen, elves, cookies and candy
canes."
Skylar
"There would be a lot of papers at
Santa's house so you couldn't really
see what it looks like. Santa has the
list, which uses up a lot of paper
because it has everyone in the world
on it and he gets a lot of letters, so
there are papers all over. He has a
special second house just to keep all
the old papers."
Jay
"There are a lot of toys at Santa's
house and the workshop. It looks
like a normal shop, but red, and there
are Christmas ornaments all over his
house. He takes ornaments and puts
them around the house."
Steven
"Santa Claus' house just looks like
a normal house. It has plastic parts
and brick parts and wood and it has
some Christmas lights. There are 20
lights on his house that are rainbow
colours."
Alayna
"Santa's house is a nice house, but
it's an igloo because that's what they
have in the North Pole. They have a
special kind of decoration up there
that isn't like normal lights because
they can't get hot or else they would
melt the igloos. His workshop is an
igloo too."
Nik
"Santa's house looks like a big -
sized house, but it is pretty small
because Santa is small. He's fat but
he's small. The door has a special
roof overtop of it so no snow or rain
comes in when Santa goes out with
all the toys. They don't have
decorations because Santa sees all
the decorations when he flies around
the world."
Zara
"I think Santa's house looks like a
big load of presents because he can
hide it that way. The workshop looks
like a shed full of presents and his
house is just one big pile of presents
so people can't find it. People might
find it if they tried to steal the
presents but Christmas is a time when
you shouldn't steal from others. It's
a time about being happy."
Damien
"I've been there and Santa's house
looks like our house. It's really
big. It has three rooms for Santa to
work in and one for the elves. It's a
fat house like Santa because he's fat."
Sadie
"Santa's house is red and green
and it's 10 feet long, which is really
long. It has to be big to fit him and
his elves and all his stuff in there.
Santa is small, so it's really long for
him."
Nash
"There are two big sides for
Santa's house, one big floor and one
big roof and it's brown because it's
made of wood. He might have
decorations, ribbons, tree balls and
stuff outside his house."

"Santa's house is a mansion, but
it's a beige mansion so it looks kind
of like the snow and slush around his
house. It has big Christmas
ornaments on the house and there is
a big workshop outside."
Blake
"There isn't a house at the
North Pole. Santa and Mrs. Claus
live in a thing that looks like a
cottage. It's made of wood
and it's brown and there
are Christmas decorations."
Josie
"The North Pole is where
Santa's house is, but he doesn't
have a house. He has a shed and a
garage. The shed is for him and the
reindeer and the garage is for the
elves."
Ryan
"Santa's house looks like my
house except it's always clean. The
elves help him clean it with their
magic, so it looks like a normal
house but with no dirt or toys on the
floor like my house."
