Clinton's Hill Street Christmas set for another year
getting together in the winter months
as well.
That suggestion would eventually
evolve into what takes place today.
The neighbours pool their money
together and buy hundreds of
bagged candles to line the streets
and they welcome many residents to
come and visit the neighbourhood
and get in the spirit on Christmas
Eve.
The event has proven popular with
the children of the neighbourhood,
who annually make a point to be
there for Christmas Eve.
Usually the neighbours begin
welcoming people to the street by
6:30-7 p.m. and it can run for
another hour and a half or two hours
with visits from Santa included.
Meyers says they have had as
many as 100 cars through the area in
one year.
Hill Street in Clinton is located
just north of the Clinton Public
Hospital.

celebration. They will be back this year again for the celebration, which is now 25 years old.

For over 25 years, the residents of
Hill Street in Clinton have been
lighting up their neighbourhood on
Christmas Eve and interest in the
project has been growing year after
year.
Susan Meyers of Clinton, daughter
of George and Pat Langlois,
formerly of Brussels, is one of
the organizers of the project and she
has even taken it upon herself to
invite Santa and Mrs. Claus to the
event.
George and Pat have taken on the
roles of Santa and Mrs. Claus at the
Brussels Santa Claus parade for
years, so Meyers asked if they would
come and spend time with
neighbourhood kids in Clinton on
Christmas Eve and they have been
making the trip for the last few
years.
Meyers said the concept for the
special night began over a quarter-
century ago. Meyers and her family
live on Hill Street and those on the
block always make a point to get
together for a party every summer. It
was at one of those parties over 25
years ago that someone suggested
